We know this time of year could offer up the creepy and spooky. But what about the sexy and mysterious? Maybe you need a Ghost or Dragons or maybe a Scottish Werewolf or maybe a Vampire to spice up your holiday?
Maybe Ghosts are your cup of tea?
How about a Ghost to spice up your Halloween? This book went through a few re-writes but in the end I loved William and Alyssa. In the beginning William was an arrogant ass who used people and didn’t really value them. When he meets Alyssa he finds not only new creativity but also love. Will the curse cost him the woman he loves?

Excerpt Rating (PG-13): Could She?
Genre: Paranormal, Contemporary
Five years ago on Halloween, author William Moore carelessly broke up with a witch. Needless to say, she didn’t take it well. Cursed to a lonely non-life as a ghost, trapped in his own home, he never expected to do more than exist in the world his ex had created. Except now he’s got a new roommate in the form of fellow author, Alyssa Washington, and he doesn’t anticipate his strong attraction to her. As their simmering emotion sparks life within, he yearns to become mortal once again.
Can his newfound feelings give him what he wishes for most?
I curse you, William Moore. By the moon and the stars. By the elements of life. Your body shall know the meaning of emptiness. Your soul shall be tied to these walls. You will hunger and thirst for nothing. Here on this land you shall remain until you know the meaning of love.” Irena hissed again. “I curse you, William Moore, for your insensitivity, your callousness and inconsideration. You will be tied to this house, never to leave it as you so clearly wish not to. I curse you, William Moore, until you find true love.”
Fire blazed through William’s body. His back bowed and his mouth opened on a silent scream. He writhed on the bed while Irena’s magic burst through him. His bones were melting, muscles being stretched taut. His heart was threatening to beat out of his chest, and pain shot through his brain, almost as if it was about to explode. He couldn’t think, breathe or move. Time passed lazily, yet swiftly at the same time. Squeezing his eyes shut, he prayed to whatever gods would listen, pleading with them to make it all stop.
Finally the fire ceased and a burst of cold shot through him. Shivering and weak, he eased his body back onto the mattress. He opened his eyes. At first the room seemed bleary, but after a moment his vision began to clear. The room appeared the same. The soft red-orange glow of the fire danced on the ceiling, the lingering scent of sex and perfume hung in the air. Turning his head slowly, ignoring the pain, he saw that the furniture looked the same–at least the items in his vision were.
He hissed when he felt the muscles in his legs jump. His stomach flipped and he moaned. He slid his arms around his abdomen and rolled over, groaning as he went. Pain wracked his body as his head began to pound again. As his body began to calm down, he rolled onto his back, panting. His eyelids felt heavy as exhaustion took hold. He tried to grasp at consciousness but it eluded him. After what seemed like an eternity of fighting, finally he drifted off to sleep. Night became day and then back to night.
The moon rose high above the trees that surrounded the house. William awoke with a start and, looking around, he tried to place the room he lay in. He had dreamed that he’d been floating over his body and throughout the house. He had watched the day pass, levitating and observing normal life as it rolled on. Now awake, he rolled out of bed, the pain in his body had ceased. He felt solid enough. Rising, he walked over to a set of double doors and undid the latch. Pushing them open, he breathed in the night air. He strode out onto the balcony and surveyed his property. Closing his eyes, he began to move haltingly, controlling his movements and breathing as he started his tai chi exercise. He let the concerns of his life float away.
In the distance he heard the door downstairs open and footsteps pounding their way up the stairs. His assistant’s voice called out to him, “Hey, Will! Willll? I have some papers for you to sign that the publisher needs ASAP.”
The door to his bedroom banged against the wall, followed by a gasp. “Oh, my God!”
The horrified words were followed by loud thuds, thumps and a clatter of something metallic falling on the wooden floor. Frowning, William pivoted and entered the room, his mouth open ready to ask what was wrong, when he saw the reason for Maggie’s shock. There on the bed, lay his naked body. It took him a few seconds to comprehend everything he saw.
Once it had sunk in, he dashed toward Maggie and started shouting at her. “I’m right here! Maggie, I’m right behind you!” He reached out to touch her on the shoulder, and watched in horror as his hand slipped right through her. He held his hand before his face, it seemed solid enough. He tried again, and the same thing happened.
Deciding to deal with that later, he tried talking to her. “Maggie, I’m right here. Maggie.”
She didn’t move, just stood before his bed staring at his naked body.
How about Vampires for Halloween?
Writing Trapped was so much fun. I wanted to write a story where the hero had to pursue the heroine and fight for her, to convince her of his true affections. Rysen and Kit were so much fun to write for and I would love to write for them again. Rysen is such a naughty vampire with a dirty mind.

Kit has never forgotten the cruel way Rysen rejected her as a possible consort over a hundred years ago. She’s striven to get stronger, pushing her attraction to him down and using her anger as fuel.
Rysen has always regretted the way he rejected Kit. As much as he loved her, Rysen despised the way her clan tried to use her as a political gambit for power and protection. But he never stopped wanting Kit, trying to make her his in every way possible.
When enemies attack, they use old magic to seal themselves off and stay safe. But now they find themselves trapped with a century of hunger rising between them….

“I felt your anger and insecurity. I had to come see for myself.”
She tried to jerk her arm away from his grip, but he refused to let go. “You’re aroused, my darling. You’re aroused by me.”
“Go to hell.” She refused to tell him just how aroused he was making her.
“Been there, got the T-shirt. Do you need help dressing?”
“No, let go of me.”
“So you can sway on your feet and fall over? I think not. Allow me to support you.”
“Pervert. You just want to watch me get dressed.”
“That is quite true. I am a pervert. You bring out the letch in me. I want nothing more than to watch you bend over as you put on your jeans. I want see that sweet ass exposed to my gaze. I long to part those deliciously rounded cheeks, fall to my knees, and lap at your anus until you become aroused, your pussy dripping with need for my cock. I want to tease you until you squirm against me, urging me to fuck you long, hard, and deep. I want you to admit you want my cock up your ass, in your pussy, and in your mouth. So yes, darling, I am a pervert.”
She shivered at his words, each syllable causing her aching channel to clench with need, gushing more cream. Her clit throbbed as her nipples tightened even further.
“I want to watch you put on your tank top. See those delicious nipples of yours pressed against the thin fabric of your shirt. I want to take those nipples in my mouth and suck on them while my fingers sink into your pussy, feel your juices slip over my hand and down my forearm. I want to finger fuck you until you come all over my hand, until the air is heavy and pungent with the scent of your sex.”
The image inflamed her. She wanted what he was saying so badly. Her cunt clenched with need. She felt the beginnings of an orgasm tightening, curling, writhing within her. She tried to control it, stop it, but it only twisted tighter, increasing the ache and fire between her legs.
“After that, I want to throw you against the wall and sink into you, balls deep. I want nothing between us, my darling. I want to feel your pussy spasm around me each time I slam into you. I want your legs wrapped around my waist, my hands holding your wrists up high over your head as I fuck you. I want to sink my fangs into your throat as I pound your pussy. I want to feel you come all over my cock, your cream slipping down my balls, over my thighs, and then I want to come inside you. I want to pump every last drop of my seed into you. I want to fuck you until my scent is rubbed into your skin. Yes, my darling, I am a letch. I am a pervert. For you, I will be all that and so much more. Don’t think for a second that once I have you, I won’t possess you, fuck you in private and in front of everyone. I want everyone to know who you belong to. Everyone.”
Need a Werewolf to have a Howling good Halloween?
Scottish. Kilted. Werewolf. Find out what happens when Iain shows Katherine what’s under his kilt.
Iain just wanted someone to help take the edge off before the full moon rose in a few days. When he met Katherine in the pub he felt he had found the perfect person to help him with his problem.
Katherine could not resist the kilted stranger who caught her eye at the bar. When he offered her a night of hot sex she couldn’t say no.
But what happens when she finds out that the stranger is her boss’s son?
The barman came over, smiling at her. “Another one for the road, lass?”
“Nope, I’m done for the day. How much –” She was stopped when he held up his hand.
“Already taken care of, love.” He nodded his head toward the man at her side. She rolled her eyes and sighed. Turning on her stool, she looked at him. His smile said it all. He thought he was going to get rewarded for his thoughtfulness. Not tonight, pal, she thought.
“I’m not going to sleep with you, give you a blow job or a hand job just because you bought me a drink. It was your money you wasted. Now if you’ll excuse me, thank you and good night.” She turned all the way around and hopped off the stool, hating the fact that she was only five foot three inches, and she had to jump down. Her booted heels clunked on the old wooden floor.
She just made it beyond the threshold when she felt a hand wrap around her wrist and jerk her back. Her spine hit the wall and two hands framed her head. His face was a contrast to the darkness of the entryway. “First, I never asked you to pay me back. Nor did I ask you to sleep with me, or give me a blow job or a hand job. I’d have loved for you to offer, but I didn’t ask. So don’t assume you know anything about me just because I buy you a drink.”
She was speechless.
“I did kiss you, not because of the drink, but because I wanted to, and besides, you were staring at my kilt. You were wondering if it’s true what they say, weren’t you? I can tell you with great certainty that it’s all true,” he murmured as his lips brushed hers.
Maybe two Dragons are what you need to fire up your holiday?
I wanted to write a story for the fantasy mentioned in Dragon Ugly. I didn’t have time or room to write it but I knew that Brent would want to fulfill his mate Carissa’s desire to have sexy in a bookstore. I loved revisiting this couple and I can’t wait to write Fletch’s story. I even know his heroine and his story.

Series: Halloween Heat II: Dragons at Samhain
Genre: Paranormal, Interracial, Ménage
It’s Samhain and Brent wants to fulfill Carissa’s fantasy of sex in a bookshop while it’s open. With help from Fletch he’s going to make it a hot, steamy night she’ll never forget.
Carissa only wanted to spend more time with her mate she didn’t know what to expect when they arrived in the mountains to visit his parents. After dressing her as a French maid, him as Highway man and their friend Fletch as Zorro, she’s pretty sure that he’s taken her fantasy to a whole new level.
Samhain has always been a magical time, now it’s about to get a whole lot hotter.
Author Note: This story comes after Dragon Ugly!
Carissa’s heart thudded against her ribcage as she allowed Brent to guide her past the shops declaring Halloween and Samhain sales and discounts. Children dressed up in various costumes rushed past them, chased by harried parents. None of that really registered. Brent’s solid, roughened palm against hers, the heat rolling off his body in waves, the aura of sexual determination and arousal coming from him wrapped around her. Her own desire pulsed between her thighs; her nipples tightened and ached for his touch. He’d dressed her tonight in a sleeveless French maid costume with crotchless panties and no bra. Cool night air brushed against her overheated sex, teasing her throbbing clit.
Fletch trailed behind them in a Zorro costume, complete with cape and mask. Brent had decided that the Highwayman costume was more to his liking, complete with a cape and mask of his own. Both men looked dashing and dangerous. A thrill raced down her spine as she glanced back at Fletch, who’d decided to go the scruffy route with a bit a coppery colored beard on his jaw. Brent’s darker five o’clock shadow made him look just as fierce. He had insisted that during the fantasy her wrists would be bound behind her back and she would be blindfolded so she wouldn’t know who was doing what. Carissa hadn’t thought that far for her fantasy, all she’d known was she wanted to fuck in a bookstore. Brent had taken it to a whole new level.
She’d even overheard them talking of using nipple clamps to help increase her pleasure. None of that mattered as much as being with the man she loved, her mate. Her wolf was just happy for a change in scenery. At the end of the night, when the clock struck Midnight, they would all shift, Brent and Fletch into dragons and Carissa into a wolf. According to Brent’s parents, it was a way to welcome Samhain in your purest form. New place to explore, and a new experience to add to the ones that Brent had brought into her once boring life.
They continued on down the block, passing more kids and parents and dodging late night drunks who were leaning on each other for support as they walked down the sidewalk. The air was filled with softness and anticipation, as if the world was holding its breath for the Witch’s New Year, when the veil between man and the dead was the thinnest. Or in this case, when the veil between mortals and the paranormal blended together to become one.
Tension shivered along her muscles as her arousal and excitement blended together. She hid her eagerness to act out this fantasy and move on to the next. Brent led the way, and she rushed to catch up with him.
“Whoa there, lover,” Carissa called out. “We have time, there’s no rush.”

The sweetest perfume drifted under his door. He snorted and sat up. She was near. His eyes had already adjusted to the darkness. He saw a shadow move in front of his door but it didn’t go to the guest room across the hall. He waited; the seconds ticked by. Each moment like a drip of water on his face, it seemed to last forever and there was no end in sight. He swallowed. His lips became dry as his heartbeat sped up. The jangle of a hand on the door handle rang in his ears. The delicate shells prickled at the musical sound. He waited. His heart stuttered and then crashed against his ribcage in a heavy drum beat. His body heat spiked as his wolf waited. Need coiled in the pit of his stomach. He licked his lips again, hoping, praying for what, he didn’t know. All he saw was that if she didn’t do something soon, he would. And then there would be no turning back. Everything would change for them, and he wasn’t sure how everyone would react or how everything would land.
As the seconds ticked by, her shadow remained at the door. The hand had stopped jiggling. Opening up his senses, he allowed her emotions to wash over him. He tasted the tang of hesitation with the sweetness of eagerness. All of it was tinged with the bright spice of lust. Underneath it all, there was Isy’s own unique natural scent. Not wanting to let the torture for both of them continue, he called out, “Isy, you can come in.”

Blood Claim: Prelude
Excerpt (R), Encounter with Sen
Genre: Paranormal, Interracial
It’s the anniversary of Kit being inducted into Vampyre society and Rysen has a few sexy plans up his sleeve — one of which is to reenact the first night he and Kit made love. He’s got the mask, had the room made up. The only problem? A misunderstanding with Kit.
Kit’s ready to for a nice lovers’ getaway with Rysen. The inn is almost done, Jessye hasn’t killed Syrus yet and life is good. That is, until she overhears Rysen on the phone sending roses to another woman. At first she’s confused then anger takes over. She’s not going to let Rysen make a fool of her.
Is he going to have to tie her down to unveil his surprise and explain it?
Publisher’s Note: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: Anal play/intercourse, ménage (m/m/f), spanking.
Any minute now, Rysen’s heart was going to burst through his chest. Never in his life had he waited so long to go after a woman or been so afraid of the consequences. His spies had reported her every movement, every like and dislike. He knew practically everything about her, and yet it wasn’t enough. He wanted the woman herself to tell him all her secrets. Kit was a decadent treat he couldn’t wait to taste and savor.
There was an innocence and purity about her. He wanted to be careful, to hold his darker tastes back. Tonight he would seduce her, show her the delights that he, and only he, could offer her.
“So tell me, Sen, what do you have planned for me tonight? It is traditional to give the newly inducted a gift after six months of being part of vampyre society.” There was heat in her dark brown eyes. Her gaze stoked the fire burning within him.
The carriage felt too small, the enclosed space was like a furnace. He swallowed as his cock twitched. “I have several things planned to help you celebrate your induction. You just have to trust me. Can you do that?”
He waited for her response, excitement pumping through his veins. The games were really about to begin.
“Yes, I can do that. Could you please take off the mask?” She gave him a hopeful look and he shifted in his seat, the leather creaking with his movement.
He smiled at her and shook his head.
“I wish to see your face. I wish to know what you look like.”
He shook his head again. “No. This is part of the present I give to you. Tonight, you must trust me. Do you trust me?”
He watched her face. Emotions moved and swirled in her eyes, but he saw no doubts or hesitations, much to his relief. He had to play his part, and he would play it in full tonight.
“All right. I trust you, Sen. I put myself in your hands.” She leaned forward, giving him the perfect view of her cleavage. “Now give me my present.”
He swallowed. His plan was now tilting on its axis as she stared up at him. “Present?”
Kit nodded. “Present. I want my present now. Make me forget about what I have to go back to when morning comes. I don’t want to think about suitors or men who may or may not be interested in me.”
Rysen felt his control slipping from his hands as he gazed into her eyes. He needed to regain his composure fast. “I promise you, I will make you forget every last one of them.”
He brought his head down until their lips were only a few millimeters apart. “First, I plan on kissing you slowly. If you’ll allow me, I plan on undressing you, exploring this beautiful body with my mouth and hands. Do you like the sound of that?”
He waited for her answer. His heart was pounding so hard he was afraid it would burst through his rib cage. He had to tread slowly. Rysen was very sure she had never experienced anyone like him. He didn’t want to scare her or make her uncomfortable. Besides, he was in enough trouble as it was with Jessye.
Ignoring the demand of his body to close the distance and kiss her, drag her toward him, and feel her curves against him, Rysen watched her reaction to his words. His cock and fangs throbbed with need. He didn’t want to just taste her blood; he wanted to fuck her until she screamed. Clearing his thoughts, he took in a deep breath and waited for her response.
It didn’t take long. She brought her face closer to his and brushed her lips against his, once, twice, three times. The slight contact fired his blood. Growling, he took hold of her head and held it still. He kissed her with passion, nipping her bottom lip and sucking the plump flesh into his mouth.
His fangs burst forth, pain shot through his mouth, but he didn’t care; the thudding of his heart against his rib cage, the silken feel of her hair against his palms, the light vanilla scent of her were all he knew. Rysen bit down, his fangs sank into her lip, and her blood spilled into his mouth.
In the back of his mind he cautioned himself not to take too much of her blood, only a small taste. Too much would bind them together. He didn’t want that just yet. Closing his eyes, he lost himself in the salty, sweet taste of her. Inhaling deeply, he let himself drown in the musky perfume of her arousal.
Her soft cry made his groin tighten. His heart pounded against his chest as need surged through his veins. He sucked harder, drinking more of her blood into his mouth. The fiery liquid rushed over his taste buds. The sweet elixir was the thing that broke him.
He growled again. He used his vampyric quickness and strength to push her against the opposite seat. His body pressed hers into the cushions. Her hands clutched his biceps, her nails dug into the silk-covered flesh. That was all it took to regain his control. Swearing, he pulled back. He licked the last drop of her blood off his lips and bowed his head. “I’m sorry, Kit. I truly am. I lost myself.”
“Did I tell you to stop?” Her eyes flashed, glittering dangerously. She leaned forward, grabbed him by the lapels of his jacket, and pulled him to her.
Her strength surprised him. Then all his thoughts scattered when her breasts pressed against his chest.
He groaned. “I need to see you. I need to taste you.”
She let go of his lapels and untied the ribbon of her corset. He watched her hands deftly undo the silken strips, pulling the sides of the corset apart to reveal a camisole underneath. He let out a sound of frustration. “You women have far too much underclothing for my liking.”
Brushing aside her hands, he grabbed the delicate material and ripped it.
She gasped and then giggled. “You’re very eager, aren’t you?”
“To see and taste you? Yes, I’m more than eager.” He pushed the sides of the corset and camisole farther apart, exposing her small, high breasts. In the soft, golden light, her skin glowed. Her dark chocolate nipples beckoned to him. He lowered his head, swirling just the tip of his tongue around one dark brown areola. She squirmed underneath him; her hips ground against his. Her movements fanned the fire roaring through him. He could just imagine what it would be like to feel her body move underneath him as they made love.
He pulled his head back and blew, watching the tip tighten. Again, he circled the turgid peak before taking it between his teeth and sucking it into his mouth. Her moan inflamed him further. He ground his hips against her, but the friction was not enough. His cock pressed against his breeches, needing to be released.
He scraped a fang over her nipple. She gasped and shuddered beneath him. He transferred his attention to the other nipple. She buried her fingers into his hair, nails scraping his scalp as she held his head against her breast. Arching her back, she ground her hips harder against his. She moaned his name, and that nearly broke him.
The carriage rolled to a stop, and a moment later, there came a tap on the door. Releasing her nipple with a soft?pop, he kissed his way upward until he reached her lips. He pressed his mouth to hers softly, then shrugged out of his jacket and handed it to her. “Put this on. I don’t want anyone to see your beautiful breasts but me.”
She laughed. “Possessive, aren’t we?”
“You don’t know how much. Now hurry,” he murmured. “I need you, and I can smell the intoxicating scent of your arousal.”
She took his coat and pulled it on, then buttoned it up with deft fingers. He pushed open the door and got out before turning and helping her down from the carriage. In the dim light of the carriage house, he could see her hair was mussed. The silver ribbon was threatening to escape, weaving through the waves and curls that fell around her shoulders. He reached out and tucked a few strands behind her ear, letting his fingers run over the delicate strands.
Rysen watched her body shudder, and smiled. Whatever happened this night, he knew this would bind them together. She had mesmerized him, intoxicated him, and he didn’t want to let go of her. But he had to remain in control. If what he had heard was true, and Ryu really had abandoned his clan, it could lead to an alliance between their two houses, despite Jessye’s obvious dislike of him. Rysen wanted Kit to be his consort. He couldn’t picture anyone else at his side but her.
Kit looked up at him, a question in her eyes. “Are you going to stand there and let me freeze?” Her lips curved into a smile, and for a moment, he was caught off guard. “If you’re not careful, I shall need help warming up.”
Reaching out, he cupped her cheek, and she turned toward his touch. He brushed his thumb over her plump lower lip. The flesh looked bruised. He preened at that.?I will be her lover. No one else will be with her.
His stomach dropped at the thought, and a shiver raced up his spine. It felt almost as if someone were walking on his grave. Ignoring the sensation, he trailed his hand down, caressing her neck and shoulder, and let it glide down her arm to take hold of her hand. Their fingers threaded together. The feeling seemed honest and right, as if the world had fallen into place. Home.
“Come, darling; let’s go inside so I can warm you up properly.” His voice was surprisingly hoarse with emotion. He started to turn away and head to the door when she tugged on his arm.
“Is something wrong?” she asked.
He raised an eyebrow rose in question. “No, why?”
“Something happened between us, something I can’t name.” Her face scrunched in concentration.
“I’m not sure what you mean.” He knew he was lying, but to tell her what was on his mind would scare them both.
He turned and led her toward the door. Inside, the golden glow of the wall sconces led him upstairs and to his bedroom. He pushed open the door, pulled her inside, and then tugged her against his body. Using his mind, he closed the door and then wrapped his arms around her. “Ready for your presents?”
With a thought, he lit the room. Candles flared to life and bathed them in a soft, warm light. She gasped and looked around her. Rose petals and candles were everywhere. Her eyes wide, she looked up at him. “Is this all for me?”
Guest Author Promo: Evangeline Anderson
I’m excited to announce my new book, The Covenant, is now out from Ellora’s Cave. I really enjoyed writing this one and I bet you’ll enjoy reading it too. It has it all–a hot, brooding vampire, a serial killing demon, and of course, lots of hot sex. So step on over to EC and check it out here:
Kaitlyn Richards is a witch with powers beyond the norm. Her unique abilities make her one of the few people in the state of Florida qualified to be an S.E., or Supernatural Enforcer. As part of her duties she uses her home as a magical holding cell for creatures too strong to be contained in normal human jails.
Holden Sumner is a three-hundred-year-old vampire on a mission—he’s been stalking a serial-killing demon for centuries and he needs Kaitlyn’s help to kill it. The problem is, she won’t give him the time of night. But Sumner is determined to get under her skin.
Though Kaitlyn is reluctant to get involved with a vampire, she agrees to help Sumner search for the killer. But in order to drive the demon back to hell and stop the slaughter of innocents, she will have to bind herself more tightly than she ever thought possible to a man she doesn’t want to love.
She and Sumner must form a blood covenant…or die trying.
Sumner just looked at me, stared into my eyes for a long, breathless moment. Then his pupils dilated, the inky blackness within eating the pale iris until it was nothing but a thin silver ring. “See yourself, Kaitlyn,” he murmured. “See yourself as I see you.”
And suddenly I did.
It was like looking into a mirror that someone had placed in my mind’s eye. In it I saw a woman with long brown hair and big brown eyes. She had a generous ass, full breasts and wide, curvy hips. She didn’t look anything like the cover of a fashion magazine but somehow it didn’t matter. She was absolutely stunning.
Beautiful, Sumner whispered in my head. You’re so beautiful, Kaitlyn. From the moment I saw you, I wanted you. Wanted you so much.
He pulled me to him and kissed me again, gently on the mouth. “Can I see you naked now?”
Though the idea had made me feel nervous and uncomfortable before, now it didn’t bother me a bit. “Of course.”
Standing, I shimmied out of the nighty and let it fall in a little puddle of black lace on the floor. I hooked my thumbs into the sides of my panties but before I could push them down, Sumner said,
I raised an eyebrow at him and gave him a little smile. “I thought you wanted to see me naked.”
“I do.” His voice was thick. “But I want to make you naked myself. Come here.” He was sitting on the side of the bed, legs spread, so I came to stand between them. He was tall but the bed was low—his face was about the level of my inner thighs. I had a vague idea that having his face so close to such an intimate part of me would have made me extremely uncomfortable in the past. Now I felt intrigued.
“Well?” I murmured, running a hand through his hair. It was thick and silky between my fingers. “Now what?”
“Now this.” Slowly, Sumner slid the black lace panties down my thighs, revealing the soft thatch of well trimmed curls at the top of my mound. Leaning forward, he rubbed his nose against me there, making me shiver as he inhaled. “God, you smell good.” His voice was a low growl and I felt a shiver of anticipation go through me.
“What else?” I whispered, tugging lightly at his hair.
Sumner looked up at me with a predatory grin. “Impatient, Kaitlyn?”
I tugged a little harder. “What if I am?”
“Patience, sweetheart. I promise to make the wait worth your while.” He began pulling the panties down again at what seemed like an excruciatingly slow pace. Obviously he was in no hurry. In fact, he actually knelt at my feet and helped me step out of them before sitting back on the bed. “God, you’re gorgeous,” he murmured, his eyes drinking me in. “Just let me look at you for a moment.”
I twirled in a little circle for him and gave him a wink. “Like what you see?” I asked, throwing his own words back at him.
“You have no idea how much,” he said hoarsely. “I can’t wait anymore. Come here.” He gestured for me to step closer which I did with no reservations whatsoever.
Sumner reached out and took me by the hips, pulling me close and then closer. He leaned forward and at first I thought he was going to inhale my scent again. Instead he pressed his lips gently to the very top of my slit, kissing me there as though he was kissing my mouth. I gasped when I felt his tongue flicker out to taste me just the tiniest bit. God, I needed more! Why was he going so slowly?
“Because I want to savor this,” Sumner murmured and I realized he must have caught my impatient thought through our strange connection. “I’ve been wanting this—wanting you—from the second I saw you.” He looked up at me, his eyes filled with pale fire. “Now spread your legs.”
I did as I was told, feeling strangely powerful as he drank me in.
“Beautiful… So hot. So wet.” Sumner spread me delicately with his thumbs, opening me, putting my slippery pink inner folds on display. In the past such a thing would have mortified me. Not now. Instead of a blush of embarrassment, I felt a slow sexual flush of desire heating my body.
It wasn’t just that I was opening myself up for him, or giving him a show. It was the expression in his eyes—the reverent, almost worshipful way he looked at me. When he leaned forward to place a teasing, tender kiss on the aching bud of my clit he touched me like I was something incredibly precious and rare, kissed me as though he might break me if he wasn’t careful. I felt beautiful—adored in a way I never had before.
I knew I shouldn’t let my feelings rule me, knew that what we were doing was just for tonight and that tomorrow I would probably regret it. But I couldn’t regret it now any more than I could feel ashamed of being nude in front of him. Letting Sumner see me in all my naked glory, letting him touch me and kiss me and explore my body was a heady experience—it made me feel free. Free to give in to all my darker impulses.
Gripping the back of his hair, I tugged hard. “You’re driving me crazy. What are you waiting for, Sumner?”
He looked up at me, licking his lips. “For you to be ready. But I think you are.”
I opened my mouth to agree but suddenly the world tilted and I was on my back on the bed with my lower legs hanging over the side. I felt dizzy for a moment and realized that Sumner must have done one of his vampire moves—so fast it couldn’t be seen with the human eye. Only this time he’d taken me with him. Taken me and put me exactly where he wanted me because there he was, kneeling in front of me, a ravenous look in his eyes.
“Let me in, Kaitlyn,” he ordered in a soft, almost dangerous voice. “Spread your legs and let me in.”
I couldn’t have resisted if I’d wanted to. Parting my thighs I welcomed him, moaning softly as his broad shoulder split me wide, opening me for him completely. I had never felt so vulnerable—so exposed.
Sumner pressed his mouth to my slit and took a long, slow taste, licking upwards as though he was eating an ice cream cone. I moaned and jerked under his mouth and he looked up at me and smiled.
“Feels good, sweetheart?”
“Feels incredible,” I admitted. And it did. To be perfectly honest, I had never enjoyed this particular act before. I had always felt too self conscious to really relax and let myself go. Then, too, I had never been with anyone who seemed so completely into it. Most guys seemed to think it was something they had to do—but it was clear that wasn’t the case with Sumner. From the look in his eyes he was enjoying himself as much as I was—maybe more.
He licked me again, another long, slow taste, and then kissed me gently, swirling his tongue around and around my clit, making me moan and thrash. God, he was good! But when he looked up again, his eyes were pale-on-red.
“Sumner?” I looked at him uncertainly.
“Can’t hold back anymore, Kaitlyn,” he growled hoarsely. “I’ve been trying to go slow—didn’t want to scare you. But, God, you smell so good, taste so good…” The naked hunger in his face was both frightening and compelling. I felt a surge of heat between my thighs—knowing he desired me so fiercely was intoxicating.
“Then don’t.” Reaching down, I grabbed a handful of his hair again and pulled him toward me. “Don’t hold back, Sumner. I’m not afraid of you. Take what you want.”
“Can’t help it. I have to.” He buried his face between my thighs again, his open mouth hot and wet and urgent against my pussy.
And then he devoured me.
Bio: Evangeline Anderson is a registered MRI tech who would rather be writing. And yes, she is nerdy enough to have a bumper sticker that says “I’d rather be writing.” Honk if you see her! She is thirty-something and lives in Florida with a husband, a son, and two cats. She had been writing erotic fiction for her own gratification for a number of years before it occurred to her to try and get paid for it. To her delight, she found that it was actually possible to get money for having a dirty mind and she has been writing paranormal and Sci-fi erotica steadily ever since.
Heroes are always a complex subject, especially in fiction and particularly in romantic fiction. On the surface of it, they seem simple. The hero is the good guy with the perfect moral compass, who always does what’s right and gets the girl. Right?
Yeah, I suppose. But, being honest? That’s the sort of hero who bores me to tears. I don’t like reading them and I sure as eggs is eggs don’t like writing them. A writer has to like his or her hero, and even fall in love with them a little themselves, otherwise how can we do their story any justice or even write a story that is credible?
My heroes are usually deeply conflicted, not perfect, and even sometimes can be considered down-right bastards. But deep within, there is something there that is redeemable. Something about them which is just waiting for the right circumstance, and the right woman to come along to make them shine, or show them the way to being the man they want to be, and of course, the hero I want to write about.
Let me share with you my thoughts on one of my favourite heroes. I make no secret of the fact I am a Jensen Ackles fan. I’ve been hooked since watching him play on Dark Angel with Jessica Alba. But my favourite role of his has to be Dean Winchester.
Like my heroes, on the surface Dean isn’t hero material. He’s rough, violent, has questionable morals when it comes to women (okay, the lad’s got the morals of an alley cat at times) and has a more meaningful link with his car than most people. He’s a liar, a conman and for a good portion of the series’es (how the hell do you make series plural anyway?) he’s wanted for murder.
If we dig a little deeper though, there is something compelling and actually heart-rending about the character. He lost his mother at a very young age, but not young enough that he doesn’t remember her like his brother, and grew up dealing with his Dad’s one-man war against everything that goes bump in the night.
He didn’t have a normal childhood, instead moved from pillar to post as John Winchester hunted, and being responsible for his little brother for large periods of time. Both boys were brought up with the knowledge that the monster under the bed isn’t a story, but is real, and how to kill it in a variety of bloody and brutal ways.
As the story progresses, we see different facets of Dean’s character revealed like little gems. His ability to kill can’t be questioned, and he’d rather take that on himself than let his brother do it and suffer agony over it. He spent time in hell and started the apocalypse, but he fights harder than anyone to put that right.
The sweetest episodes for me are the ones were we see what Dean actually wants. Far from the gung-ho, action-driven lifestyle he has, and which most men would kill for in their dreams, he wants a home and family. He wants to be normal.
However, when the shit hits the fan, and the world is about to end…even though he can’t do anything and the very attempt will probably kill him…he doesn’t back down. He faces down the devil himself to try and save his brother.
Violent, egotistical, arrogant…determined to do right, unbelievably noble and sweet as all hell. That’s why Dean Winchester is one of my favourite heroes.

Her first stories were penned at age 11, when she used a stationery set meant for Christmas thank you letters to write stories instead. More recently, she wrote for her own amusement and to save on outrageous monthly book bills. Now she’s totally addicted and needs her daily writing fix or heads roll!
Villain or Hero?
He and the hero oppose each other at every turn. His goal damages the hero and prompts him to take action. Yet is this person who stands in the hero’s way or destroys his happiness evil?
The label villain or hero depends on whose point of view the story is told from. The villain or the antagonist often does terrible things to achieve his goal, yet is that goal any less important than the hero’s? A well developed villain is often as interesting and sympathetic as the hero. If the story were turned around and told from the antagonist’s point of view, the man or woman you see as the “good guy” might not look so noble. Often the villain’s goal means so much to him that he’ll sacrifice anything to reach it. The hero usually shares this obsession, but since we’re exposed to his reasons for wanting to reach his goal, he gains our compassion. We want him to win the fight and stop the “bad guy,” but is he truly bad?
An intriguing villain demands his own story, though unfortunately he doesn‘t always get it. He needs a chance to prove that he’s not purely evil and that he has good reasons for his actions. He might even be as right as the hero. When told from another point of view, a story seems quite different than we originally thought.
As a reader and a writer, I love villains and antiheroes. They have flaws and strengths that make them human–even if they’re paranormal creatures. Usually they’re easier to relate to than a perfect hero.
Villains often share many characteristics with the hero, such as courage, determination, intelligence, and a sense of honor. As they’re opposing the hero, the hero opposes them as well. The hero prevents the villain from reaching a goal that might be quite noble or at least understandable, yet the villain has caused harm to a character we’ve gotten to know intimately. We see the villain at his worst, yet sometimes if we look deeper or if we’re given the chance to see inside him, we’ll learn that he’s more than we first believed.
My most recent villain turned hero is Lao from the world of Blood and Soul. Throughout this particular vampiric world, Lao has made many enemies and is considered a villain by most of the other characters. In Villain Tamed, Lao gets a chance to tell his side of the story and even reconciles with some of the people he has hurt. For me Lao always stood out as a character. I enjoyed writing him and looked forward to revealing more about him and his past.
Monstrous or misguided? Attacker or defender? Is he a villain or is he a hero? It depends on how the story is told.

For centuries Lao has battled humankind and in doing so has made many enemies. Injured while fighting the dreaded new reign, he asks for refuge from Sudsy Waters.
The last thing Lao wants is to fall in love with a human, but when he meets Tyler, the doctor at Blood or Nothing, a love ignites that will burn all barriers Lao has built around his heart.
In the final battle with the Evil Master, the future of the world depends on Lao, but can love redeem the man feared almost as much as the devil?
The following excerpt from VILLAIN TAMED is for readers 18 and over.
Lao lifted his gaze to Tyler and remained still, his expression unreadable. The doctor trailed his fingertips down his cheek and brushed a lock of long black hair behind Lao’s ear. He lightly traced a thin yet jagged scar that ran from the bottom of Lao’s ear almost to his chin. It was the only scar on the vampire’s exotic face.
“Where did you get this?” Tyler asked, referring to the scar.
“Trusting a human.”
Tyler snorted. “As if you ever trusted a human.”
“I’ve had my moments.”
Dropping his hand, Tyler said, “I suppose if you got scarred for it, that didn’t give you much incentive to keep trusting us.”
Lao didn’t reply and Tyler tried to guess what the ancient felt, but it was impossible.
Those black eyes studied him with a detached and keenly intelligent look.
“Is it true what they say about you?” Tyler continued.
“They say a lot of things. Which rumor are you referring to?”
“That you don’t Change blood children out of love.”
“I’ve been called worse.”
“And have no doubt deserved it.” Lao rose, but Tyler didn’t back away to give him room. They stood so close their chests almost touched. Tyler’s calm blue eyes stared into his and he moistened those beautiful lips with the tip of his enticing pink tongue.
Remembering the kisses they’d shared, Lao wanted to taste him again.
Accustomed to taking what he wanted, Lao cupped the back of Tyler’s strong neck and covered his mouth in a demanding kiss. The doctor’s scent filled him and he heard the mortal’s heart beat faster. Tyler’s eyes closed and he stepped nearer. Had Lao been human, Tyler might have knocked him onto the bed. Their lean bodies pressed closer, hard chests and steely thighs pushed against each other and their cocks heated.
Tyler groaned, a rough, sexy sound that aroused Lao so much that he growled, a sound of vampire passion. Their tongues thrust against each other, engaging in a wet, sexy battle that both men sought to win.
The doctor tasted so fucking good and Lao wanted more. He wanted Tyler’s blood.
Tyler wrapped his arms around Lao. He caressed his back, removed the clip from Lao’s hair and threaded his fingers through his long locks.
When the kiss broke, even Lao was slightly breathless.

Why Being Bad Can Feel so Good
by Beth Kery
My upcoming print release from Samhain, Velvet Cataclysm, involves clones, one who is evil to root of his bones and the other who struggles against his vampiritic, parasitic nature.
We all have a selfish, ego-maniac residing deep, deep inside us—go on, admit it—which is one of the reasons it’s so fun to write and read about a truly nasty anti-hero. Especially when said anti-hero is a gorgeous, walking god. Teslar, the bad-guy in Velvet Catalysm, does bad things because it gets him what he wants…or it feels good. He accepts his nature without doubt, and you’ve got to love a guy who’s decisive.
His face may have been Saint’s, but his luxurious mane of blondish-brown hair hung down his shoulders and back. While Saint wore a neatly trimmed goatee that was a shade darker than the burnished hair on his head, this man was clean-shaven. He wore a pair of circular, mirrored sunglasses that hid his eyes.
“Well, well, well. What have we here?”
His voice was very much like Saint’s—resonant, rich, and mesmerizing. She felt his eyes on her even through the dark glasses.
Heat bloomed beneath the surface of her skin. (From Velvet Cataclysm)
Freud was the one to break down why the bad in us can feel so good. Those id-impulses are alive and well in all of us; that part that would to bare our teeth and claws when we’re pissed or let the clothes fly and get down to it following a passing sexual attraction. There’s a good reason we don’t let things fly, of course; things like morality, the law, loyalty, compassion, etc. Yes, these things are worth the struggle to damp down the beast in all of us.
Yes, we know the superego is good and necessary for civilization and individuals to grow.
BUT, it sure is fun to let that bad girl or guy out occasionally, and books or movie give us that outlet.
The thing that I like about Saint, my hero, is that he’s not the opposite of Teslar. He actually completely identifies with Teslar, and understand that Teslar is—in essence–him. He understands he has the parasitic nature, the bloodthirst, the nearly uncontrollable hunger and lust. Saint’s power is that he chooses to fight it to gain something higher. Sometimes he fails, but the friction of his struggle grants a damned, inhuman creature the unimaginable—a soul.
The soul in this context incorporates Freud’s idea about the ego. The ego negotiates the impulsive beast (id) and the stuffy authority figure (superego) in all of us. It represents something higher than a combination of both. This is the transformation that Saint must undergo to be worthy of a soul…and an amazing woman, Christina.
Do you have a favorite bad guy/gal in a book or movie, someone you secretly root for? If I were an actress, my ultimate role would be a brilliant, ruthless…busty villainess. What about you? Hero or Anti-Hero? By Marie Treanor
For me, the hero of a romance is the lead male character who gets the girl.
I don’t mind if there are two heroes. I don’t mind if he’s got fangs, fur, dubious habits, immoral – or even amoral – behavior, so long as he has that something to make my toes curl. In fact, I’ve always had a soft spot for the hero with a hint of bad – or even a villain with the tiniest hint of good feeling. I like my heroes and my villains to have layers (like Shrek and onions ), so I suppose it’s not surprising if my boundary between hero and villain gets blurred occasionally.
Saloman, the hero of Blood on Silk (and of the whole Awakened by Blood trilogy), was described in a recent review as an antihero. And although he’s certainly the male lead, I suppose for much of the book he doesn’t behave a lot like a true hero. For a start, he aims to kill our heroine (which is hardly “cricket”!) and throughout the story, he murders without an obvious qualm. Well, he’s a vampire. He’s meant to drink human blood. And besides, he’s very sexy, and Elizabeth, the heroine in question has the sneaking suspicion that one night with him might just be worth dying for.
Let’s face it, we’re all attracted to bad boys from time to time. We like the risk (even if it’s more comfortable to read about a romance heroine taking that risk for us!). And vampires are the ultimate bad boys. I had great fun with the wicked sides of Karoly in Hunting Karoly (also in the Seducing Scots anthology), and of Max in Loving the Vampire (City of the Damned ebook collection). They paved the way, to some extent, for Saloman in Blood on Silk.
So what makes Saloman a hero instead of a villain? Surely not just the fact that he inspires all those inappropriate, not to say inconvenient, feelings in Elizabeth, even while she knows she has to kill him before he kills her?
To me, he’s saved from villainy in the end, by his “differentness.” He isn’t a human so he doesn’t think like one. Gradually, throughout the series, it becomes clear that Saloman does indeed have a strict moral code, even if it’s not one that a human can easily understand, let alone identify with. By his own lights, he’s behaving perfectly reasonably. And I think that has parallels in older and greater stories – for example, the heroes from two of my earliest favourite American novels, Mark Twain’s eponymous Huckleberry Finn, and Joseph Heller’s Yossarian from Catch 22, both of whom behaved in unconventional ways and held unconventional views that would have been considered anti-heroic at best to many of their contemporaries, even though they’re perhaps more clearly heroes to modern readers.
Now, I couldn’t behave or even think like Saloman and I don’t want to. Neither does Elizabeth (mostly!). But I don’t believe that makes him a villain. What do you think? Is Saloman a hero or an anti-hero? If you like, read the excerpt below to see if it helps you decide .
Scottish academic Elizabeth Silk is spending the summer in Romania researching historical superstitions for her PhD. While she is tracing local folktales, one subject in particular sparks her imagination. His name is Saloman, legend’s most powerful vampire, a seductive prince staked centuries ago. Now, in the ruins of a castle crypt, Elizabeth discovers the legends are real. Her blood has awakened him. Her innocence has aroused him. But Elizabeth unleashes more than Saloman’s hunger.
An army of vampire hunters has amassed to send Saloman back to hell. Sworn to help – yet fearing Saloman’s deadly blood lust – Elizabeth seeks to entrap him, offering her body as bait. But something stronger than dread, more powerful than revenge, is uniting Elizabeth to her prey. Caught between desire and rage, Elizabeth must decide where her loyalties lie…and what the limits are to a yearning she can no longer control.
Saloman went very still, and for a moment, she wondered if she’d won a breathing space at least. Then his lips closed on her throat, caressing and teasing her skin. She was sure he even flicked the vein with his tongue, tapping it like a nurse before inserting a needle.
She trembled, both yearning and dreading and unable to distinguish one from the other. Saloman relaxed the pressure of his body on hers, and the hand on her chest slipped lower between them and closed over her naked breast. She let out a tiny, inarticulate sound that might have been a sigh or a sob.
Saloman lifted his head. His black eyes burned into hers. “I know,” he said, and dropped his gaze to her mouth, to her breasts. His palm moved, gliding over the aching peak of her nipple.
“Know what?” she demanded with desperation, having lost the thread.
“That Zoltán attacked you. He has no finesse.”
“You were there,” she blurted. “You were the other shadow. . . .” And yet she could have sworn she’d surprised him by her original revelation.
“The other shadow? I’m not sure I like that. It offends my sense of superiority.”
A breath of laughter escaped her, as unbidden as it was appalling. “Are you for real?”
“Oh yes.” His hand released her breast to draw the sheet farther down. “Don’t I feel real?” His fingers touched her lips, parting them with a downward sweep that continued over her chin and throat and down between her breasts to her navel. She moved with the caress, arching under his hand because she couldn’t help it. She felt like a musical instrument, played by his careless, talented fingers.
“I began this meal the night you wakened me,” he whispered. “And I will finish it. All of it.”
She swallowed, trying not to squirm under his devouring gaze. Jesus, no one had ever looked at her like that, with such greedy, urgent passion . . . but then no one had ever regarded her as a meal before either.
His finger circled her belly button, dipping in and out.
She gasped, “What do you mean, all of it?” Was there a choice? Could she convince him to leave her alive?
The almost- smile dawned and died on his lips.
“Sex,” he said unexpectedly. She blinked, and his gaze moved up to her face, mocking, yet scalding in its intensity. “That’s what you call it these days, isn’t it? When you’re being polite.” He laid his whole hand flat on her stomach, then swept outwards and downward to her thigh. “Let me say it in my own more familiar terms. Tonight, I will pleasure you. I will take every delight your sweet flesh can give me. And just before sunrise, I will finish the meal.”
Could she negotiate for one without the other? Burning up with his words, she wanted all of it. She remembered the staggering bliss of his killing mouth on her throat, and she was only too aware of her helpless reaction to his touch right now.
He could make me orgasm just by looking at me. . . . Oh shit, what is the matter with me?
“Well, that’s novel,” she managed, with what mockery she could summon, forcing herself to be still under his idly caressing hands. “Dalliance and dinner instead of the other way round.”
His lips quirked. “I offered them both together, as I recall. I believe I can still manage that. Afterward.”
She squirmed, and he smiled, pleased and predatory.
Fighting herself at least as much as him, she tried for further delay. “Why didn’t you just do it then? What’s the point of all the cat-and-mouse?”
“Fun,” he replied, as though surprised. “And the fact that I barely had the strength to stand, let alone fuck.”
Her face flamed all over again, and his hand on her nape massaged the muscles there, sending shivers all the way down her spine. They felt more like bolts of lust.
He said, “I’m better now,” and drew her forward by the nape until her naked body rested against him. There was no time to struggle, if she could have forced herself to it, before his mouth closed on hers in the most sensual kiss she’d ever known. His lips dominated, tasting, then sucking, while his tongue thrust in deliberate simulation of sex. She felt his teeth, those terrible fangs, and without really meaning to, just unable to resist, she touched one with her tongue.
A sound like a groan escaped him. She was swept closer into his body, her breasts crushed against his hard, powerful chest while the hand not caressing her nape splayed flat against her naked back and began to play among her vertebrae, spreading wild, devastating lust straight between her legs.
He opened her mouth wider with his, deepening the kiss. She felt dizzy, as if she were falling, and realized he was pressing her back into the pillows, moving the rest of his body onto the bed with her.
This is it. He’s really going to do it; have sex with me. Everything in her leapt toward that goal, that yearning which had become a need, a necessity. In just an instant, she’d feel the weight of his hard, muscular body. As he removed his clothes, she’d feel his naked skin on hers, his hardness pressing between her thighs. This amazing, beautiful being wanted to have sex with her.
And then he would kill her.

Arran MacLain is a vampire on a suicide mission, driven to kill his former partner who betrayed him and the Enclave they served. But two things stand in his way: Gabrielle, the human female who holds his heart, and the past that won?t let him go. If only death was enough to cleanse his soul.
Gabrielle Steven?s sister is missing. Her hunt for clues brings her face to face with the one vampire she can?t forget. Their missions combine and thrust them into the heart of evil. Will their passion be enough to overcome the pain from their past, or will their dark desires destroy them both?
Arran rolled his Ninja into the parking lot beside Gabrielle?s car and killed the engine. She?d taken the newsflash about Markus and Marguerite pretty much like he?d expected. She?d mumbled an oath of determination right before she?d kicked him out of the car. Gabrielle wasn?t a member of the Enclave in name only. It didn?t matter that she didn?t work patrol. Gabrielle was as much a warrior as any of the males. Life hadn?t dealt her any favors. And she wasn?t one to lie down and let it bulldoze over her. She stood and fought for every inch of ground gained.
He waited for her to get out of the car, then removed his helmet.
?You didn?t need to follow me home,? she said over her shoulder, heading for the front door of her sister?s townhouse. He was surprised when she?d led him here instead of a hotel. The place must have belonged to her sister. He palmed his keys, slid off his bike, and shoved the keys in his pocket.
?I wasn?t going to let you leave alone after the info I just dumped on you,? he said as he came up behind her while she unlocked the door. ?I wanted to make sure you got home safe. And I wanted to be sure you actually went home.?
?Oh my God, you can be such an ass sometimes.? Her back was to him, but Arran could almost hear her eyes roll with that statement. She was right. He was an ass. But while he was here, he would be taking care of hers.
Gabrielle flipped on the lights, and he followed her inside. The heels of her boots clicked on the hardwood floor of the foyer, echoing in the open stairwell of the two-story apartment. She couldn?t have been in town long, but the air in the place already carried her scent. He pulled in another slow, deep breath through his nostrils. His heart rate quickened. Honeysuckle. Arran wanted to smile but repressed the grin. Ironic that such a delicate and sweet fragrance emanated from the hellcat with whom he?d just been reacquainted.
Her keys clinked as she dropped them in a bowl on a table near the staircase. Arran?s gaze devoured her provocative profile. He?d never seen her dressed like she was tonight. Living with five male vampires within the Enclave walls, she usually dressed a bit more conservatively. Not matronly, but definitely not this revealing. A short black leather skirt barely covered the lush curves of her ass, and a shirt that couldn?t have been more than a decked-out bra did its best to contain her full breasts. Shiny black leather boots wrapped her legs, highlighting the toned sweep of her calves. This couldn?t happen again. Arran slowly shook his head. He would end up killing someone if she dressed like this again.
She turned her head to the side, facing him. ?I don?t need a babysitter. I?m more than capable of taking care of myself.? She shifted and faced him head-on. ?You?ve been gone a long time, Arran. Things have changed. I?ve changed.?
?Maybe so. But you?re not taking on that colony alone. I can?t believe Logan let you come here without him.? Gabrielle turned her back, rearranging her purse on the table. Shit. He recognized the body language. ?You didn?t tell him, did you?? Arran closed the distance between them.
?No. I didn?t need him here.? Gabrielle looked up, fierce determination written on her face. ?I can handle this. Alex needed me. And I?m going to be there for her.? She shifted to face him again, leaning her hip against the table. ?I?m smart enough to know if — and when — I need help.?
Arran closed in, crowding her personal space, wanting a reaction. Aching for it, actually. Gabrielle straightened and took one step back but stopped and lifted her chin, refusing to cower and give him the reaction he itched for. She caught on quick.
?You think you have it all handled, lass??
?Yeah, I do.?
?You got it all under control??
The amber color of her irises had grown near molten. He allowed a small smile to pull at the corner of his mouth, loving the way she got all hot and bothered when he pushed her.
?Yes. I do.? The words had barely left her lips when she attacked, one leg coming out to catch the back of his ankle. Caught off guard, he stumbled.
Before he could regain his balance, she had his wrist locked in her grip. Swinging his arm up, she spun underneath, twisted, and wrenched his arm up the middle of his back, then shoved him face-first into the dank-smelling wall.
Well, damn. Not bad. ?You?ve been training,? he mumbled against the Sheetrock.
?A little.? She sounded quite proud of herself. She was good. He?d give her that. But her heavy breathing told him it was all she could do to contain him, and he hadn?t even come close to tapping into his full abilities. She?d caught him by surprise, but she was human, a woman, and no match for a mature vampire. Especially in a multiple attack.
With a burst of speed, Arran pushed back, forcing Gabrielle to release him instead of falling on her rear. He whirled, catching her before she hit the floor. In less than a second, their positions reversed. Except this time, he?d pinned her back against the wall, her hands imprisoned by his, over her head.
The position pushed her full breasts up, almost spilling them from her top. Nice. He lifted his gaze, prepared for a hard glare. If her eyes were molten earlier, they were near boiling now. He couldn?t have stopped the next words that spilled from his lips if he?d tried.
?You ass!? She squirmed and bucked against him like a feral cat. Instead of gaining her freedom, though, each maneuver jammed her tighter into his hold. Her every inhale shoved her breasts into his chest. Heat radiated off her body, threatening to scramble his brain. Before he knew he?d even moved, his lips hovered over hers. What made him stop, God only knew. Maybe it was the way she?d suddenly grown still? Or maybe it was the moment she?d parted her lips, releasing warm, peppermint-scented bursts of air that seduced his mind. So damn enticing. All he had to do was lean in one more inch, and he?d –
Fire shot up his arm. ?Son of a?? Releasing her, he jumped back and flung his gaze to the offending limb. Blood.
A thin line of crimson blossomed along the outside of his bicep. She?d played him. Purposefully distracted him, so she could pull her hand free and reach for a blade that must have been hidden under her skirt and against her thigh. The little minx.
He swiveled his head back in Gabrielle?s direction. Air punched from his lungs. Christ. Blood surged to his cock. The overwhelming urge to stroke the rock-hard length at the sight of her was short-circuiting his brain. Gabrielle stood, one boot in front of the other, palming a short dagger. She was ready to fight.
He was ready to fuck.
Arran rocked from one foot to the other, searching within for the strength not to take what was his. Mentally, he shook his head. No. She?s not yours, asshole. But damn if his cock had the sense to listen.
?I know you weren?t about to kiss me, warrior. Were you?? She raised a delicate brow and tilted her head. ?Because last I heard, my kiss was ?forgettable.??
Ouch. He?d had a feeling if he ever saw her again, that asinine comment would come back to bite him in the ass.
?Give me the blade, Gabrielle.?
?This?? She twirled the dagger, then palmed the hilt and held it up for display. ?You want it?? A devious smile lit her face. With her other hand, she beckoned him with her fingers. ?Come and take it.?
Bad, bad challenge, kitten. A tremor started in his gut and worked its way up, until it was a buzz inside his brain. Every cell in his body wanted to take.
A gasp of air in his ear was the only indicator that he?d grabbed her. He didn?t remember the trip. Arran lifted her feet from the floor, whirled, and gently laid her on the stairs, pressing his hips, his chest into hers. He had to get his body next to hers. Everywhere. The dagger fell from her hand, rolling and thumping its way down the steps, each tumble a hollow thud.
The loud percussions bypassed the noise inside his head and brought him to a dead halt. He lay with his hips between her legs, his groin pressed to hers. His mouth suspended above her lips. He dropped his gaze to her mouth. God, how he loved the delicate line of her lips, a perfect bow. So full and pink. Her tongue darted out and moistened the lower one. He couldn?t stifle the groan that rolled from the back of his throat.
He dragged his gaze back to her eyes. Passion mixed with doubt and fear stared back at him. ?I?m sorry.? The whispered words tumbled from his heart.
She blinked, then swallowed. ?Why??
?For hurting you.?
Her eyelids shuttered, and her breath hitched. Did she believe him? Was an apology enough for what he?d done? He?d walked away, leaving her to think he?d never wanted her, when the truth was, he wanted her more than his next breath. Sorry sounded so insignificant, compared to how much damage he?d done to her heart.
?Gabrielle.? Long, dark eyelashes lifted. Beautiful, near gold eyes shimmered with unshed tears. Please don?t cry. If only he had the power to bring her tears of joy. Instead of the pain he was so damn good at. He wanted to kiss the hurt away. ?Remind me.?
Her lips parted first in silence before she asked, ?Of what??
Arran released her arms and cupped her face with his palms. He caressed her lips with his gaze before lifting it back to hers. ?What I walked away from.?
Jessica Lee Bio:
Almost every author?s bio states they?ve been writing since they learned to read. It?s what they?ve always wanted to do. Well, my journey wasn?t so straight and narrow. I?ve been a nurse for over twenty years and hold a bachelor?s degree in Science with a major in Biology. So, as you can see, my career path had originally gone in the opposite direction. I didn?t discover my passion for the craft until after I?d had my son and decided to work part-time.
I?ve always loved to read but had never read a paranormal romance. Then one night at work on break, I began reading Karen Marie Moning?s, Spell of the Highlander. I couldn?t believe what I had been missing, and I immediately feel in love with the genre.
I wanted to write like that. To create a story others could find the same excitement in, as I did, when I read my first sensual paranormal romance.
That?s what I hope you find here. A fabulous escape and wonderful adventure that keeps you coming back for more.
