28 Days of Heart: Barbara Hancock

There’s just something about a haunted abbey surrounded by the foggy moors of Northern England…especially when it’s home to a dark and dangerous vampire who’s waiting for his reluctant bride. In “A Shadow’s Kiss”, I decided to lean a little gothic and I enjoyed every minute of it. The atomosphere, the emotion, the sensuality–every element came together–making me fall in love with my tortured hero and the woman who doesn’t expect to love him.

I’m excited this story was chosen to be one of the novellas in the 28 Days of Heart campaign. I never knew my grandmother. She died as the result of a heart attack before I was born. But I’ve seen my mother’s battle with heart problems first hand and I’m so glad that I can help raise money for The American Heart Association by sharing something close to my own heart…paranormal romance.

Blurb:
Can their love overcome a legacy of evil?

Anna Benecia can’t escape her destiny. A promise signed in blood binds a Shadow for eternity even if the one bound longs to live in the sunny here and now.

Malcolm Hayes is the new host for the hunger of an evil spirit who has walked the earth for a thousand years. The Darkhaven shade must have the blood of innocents fed upon by the vampires he creates and controls in order to remain manifest. Freshly possessed and cursed to burn with a hunger only his Shadow bride can slake, Malcolm is determined to fight.

Can a young woman destined to marry into darkness bring the light of hope to a man newly cursed to walk the night?

28 Days of Heart Leigh Ellwood

Everybody needs a nudge in the right direction sometimes. For a guy like Cale Durbin, alone and not looking forward to burning off a birthday with a blind date, the Bat Signal shining down on the home of the man of his dreams would be a big help. Instead, he’s gifted with a quirky GPS device with a mind (?) of its own. Where is Cale going? You can find out on February 21 when GPS releases through the All Romance 28 Days of Heart celebration. GPS is an erotic romance featuring explicit male on male lovin’. ;-)

Proceeds from the sale of GPS are donated to the American Heart Association in conjunction with their Wear RED campaign to raise awareness of heart disease among women. Usually when we think of women and overcoming illness, the discussion turns toward breast or ovarian cancer. Perhaps sometimes we lose focus and don’t realize that good heart health is equally important. We only have one, after all, and we should take care of it. :)

Heart disease awareness is a cause close to my, er, heart as well. Both of my parents lost their fathers to heart attacks, and in both instances neither man lived to see 60. Granted, on my father’s side there had been a history of heart problems among the men (up through his line, several men succumbed in their 50s and 60s to heart trouble), yet it’s because of associations like the AHA that we learn things that break these cycles brought on by genetic patterns. As I head into my 40s, I don’t want to worry about having my life cut short by something that could have been prevented.

For just two dollars (maybe more if you check out the other titles available at ARe), you can help a great cause and read a hot story that gets your heart pumping. Hope you enjoy it!

28 Days of Heart: Samantha Sommbersby

As an author and lover of romance, matters of the heart are important to me. I was thrilled to have my novella, Touch of Fire, accepted by All Romance for their 28 Days of Heart series. Valentine?s Day is filled with imagery of hearts and flowers, expectations of boxes of chocolate, or dinners out. I love the idea of doing something to promote awareness, especially in women, about the importance of taking care of our health and our hearts.

My novella is especially personal because it also pays homage to something else I?m grateful for, the brave firefighters of San Diego county who help save lives and fight the wildfires that plague us every year. Check out the yummy cover and little blurb:

Summary:
He’d brave the fires of hell just to hold her…

Firefighter Garrett Flint rescues the beautiful Nicole from a burning building, and then breaks all the rules by taking her into his home and into his heart.

In honor of the series release, I?m running a contest!

Enter the Your Heart?s Desire Contest

1. Post a list of the four titles from the series you?d most like to have someplace on the web. Facebook, myspace, twitter, your own blog, one belonging to a friend, this one?all fair game.

2. Using the contact page on my website samanthasommersby [dot] com, email me the URL where I can find your post and your email address

What?s the Fabulous Prize?
At the end of the month I will fulfill the wishes of seven winners for a total of 28 books. Winners will be contacted prior to fulfillment just in case their top four selection has changed.

Why seven winners, four books each? Because I really want to encourage everyone to support this endeavor. With 28 titles to choose from in so many sub-genres, and for a super reasonable price ($1.99-$3.50) you?re sure to find some others that you can?t live without. Right?

Samantha Sommersby lives in San Diego with her husband and son. In 2007 she left what she used to call her ?real life? day job as a psychotherapist to pursue writing full-time. She now happily spends her days immersed in the world of the Forbidden, a world where vampires are real, where magic is possible, and where love still conquers all. Samantha is the author of over a dozen novels and novellas including The Temptation, book four in the critically acclaimed Forbidden series releasing March 5 and published by Samhain Publishing, Ltd.

28 Days of Heart: Tilly Greene

Daydreaming Does a Body Good

My name is Tilly Greene, an erotic romance author, and I confess to being a daydreamer.

Personally, I don?t see anything wrong with letting the mind travel where it will, although my grade school teachers thought it was bad.? Now it does me good, go figure.? Often that is where I come up with ideas for the next story or series.? I can be reading the paper, listening to the radio, or watching tv, and my mind wanders.? It?s great and while much of it is useless, some sticks on the plot pad [the place I keep notes for story ideas].? ?And She Scores? is a result of daydreaming and it offered me more than a stud for a hero.

For instance, I was working on a story to submit to All Romance in response to their call for 28 Days of Heart event, and it was all right, but it felt forced.? Could be because it was about cooking and I don?t cook, but it wasn?t working for me.? So, I took a break, and watched a pre-season football game.? The game was all right and commentators were talking about various players.? Great, so I?d know who would be playing and who wouldn?t, it was good.? After a while, it stopped being interesting and my mind went traveling in another direction:

Gorgeous hero wearing tight football pants, shirtless and sexy, gets the girl, and they walk off into the sunset.

Fabulous idea, time to expand!

With a blink, I picked my laptop back up, and ?And She Scores? was created.? A football stud, returning from what could?ve been a career ending injury, is interviewed by the woman he loves but lost.? Walking to conduct the interview everyone wants, her mind is set on doing the job, and she wouldn?t think about how he didn?t care for her as much as she?d thought.? All common sense leaves her in a rush when she walks into the locker room, ready to do the interview, and he is shirtless, sweating from his workout.? Add in the Santa Ana winds, raging wildfires, and the tension, and Southern California was ready to combust around them.

Interesting how our imaginations work.? So, want to know what could possibly happen between these two, while at a major arena, with a ton of people around them?? To find out, you?ll need to visit? All Romance or?OmniLit, and pick up a copy of ?And She Scores?.? And, to make this even more enjoyable, all proceeds go to benefit the?American Heart Association.

28 Days of Heart: Cat Johnson

First of all a huge thanks to Selena for inviting me to kick off this very special month. February is traditionally the month of love thanks to our celebration of Valentines Day. All Romance eBooks? 28 Days of Heart series to benefit the American Heart Association (AHA), that?s what.

Luckily I am uniquely qualified to tell you from first hand experience because besides being one of the contributing authors, I also had the pleasure of coordinating the project. You will not be disappointed because I can honestly say there is something for everyone. The stories span the genres from contemporary to ancient history, from multiple partners and same sex to romance on the sweeter side, from paranormal to Sci Fi. Each story was donated by best selling and up and coming authors from some of your favorite publishers, both NY and small press. In addition you can walk away knowing that you helped a good cause with your reading dollars.

You can even go to the ARe Facebook Fanpage, post a picture of yourself wearing red, and one lucky poster will be chosen to win the entire series of novellas. ARe will also be sending out special heart-healthy editions of their Wildfire newsletter.

So that?s what this month is all about but I would be remiss if I neglected to tell you what my 28 Days story was about so here it goes?below is my blurb and, of course, a buy link for the story. Guest Blogger: Lissa Matthews

I?m a Southern girl. I was born and raised and currently live in the Southeastern US. I even have a bit of a twang. I?m a NASCAR fan and at times would consider myself a bit of a redneck. Heck y?all, my mama used to take me to the Lil Champ when I was a kid and we?d get Coke and peanuts. The special thing about that is?you put the peanuts IN the Coke!

And guess what? I still do that! It?s one of my favorite game day treats. Yum. Come to think of it, one would be really good right about now?(dramatic pause as Lissa goes off in pursuit)

Now, what was I saying? Oh right. I?m a Southern girl, but my latest book, Sugar Rush, is set in Denver, Colorado and the Rocky Mountains. I fell head over heels in love with Colorado.

I took a real life trip a few years ago during the month of February. Celebrated a birthday out there. It was the first time I?d ever seen snow, I mean, real snow. You know, the kind that actually accumulates on the ground and is white and powdery and you can make snowballs and snowmen. There were a lot of firsts on that trip, including my first time on a plane, first time out of the South, first Hard Rock Caf?, my first trip to The Tattered Cover, which is the bestest bookstore ever! Two stories, plus coffee and tea. Amazing.

We drove from Denver through Boulder, by a house with a bunch of elk in the front yard, through Estes and into the Rocky Mountain National Park. I could have stayed there forever just standing and looking out at the mountains. I?d never seen anything like it. It literally took my breath away.

Another day, we drove west toward Breckenridge. We didn?t know that?s where we were going, but it?s where we ended up. The prettiest little town and the quaintness of it at the time has inspired me to put a book there. But, until then?

On our way up to the Rocky Mountain National Park was this little cabin in a valley. A stream running through the property, smoke curling up from the stone chimney, a little bridge over said stream. The ground was covered all over with snow. It was a picture right out of a book. And now, it?s in a book.

That cabin and that trip has stayed with me. I used that cabin as the place Graham, my hero in Sugar Rush is renting while he?s writing a travel article about the area north of Denver. He?s from Texas, a Cowboy by birth, a writer and traveler by heart. He?s a romantic and a sexy hunk of man!

I chose downtown Denver, the historic downtown part as the setting for Jane?s loft. She?s urban, citified, cute as a button, and wears insensible, ridiculous shoes. She?s also a plus-sized heroine, all curves and curls.

I can see in my mind?s eye everything we saw and did. I can still feel the cold that is so different from a Southern cold. I can still see the view from Pike?s Peak, still taste the hamburger from the little roadside diner (no, not in the bad way), smell the chocolates and coffee in the small caf? in Breckenridge.

Sometimes we take a trip someplace and we leave a piece of ourselves there and take a piece of it back home with us. I can?t wait to go back, to see how it?s changed and how it?s stayed the same. I can?t wait to write my story that will be set there and I can?t wait to have my breath taken away again. It?ll be soon, too. Or at least soon for me (hafta get the money together and that will take a while). I promised my daughter I?d take her to Colorado between her Jr and Sr year of high school. I hope she?ll love it in the summer as much as I did in the winter.

I appreciate Selena having me here to visit and share with you my inspiration for my debut Loose Id release, Sugar Rush.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

~lissa

Sugar Rush:

Graham is twenty-six and has a dream job as a travel writer. He?s seen some of the most beautiful areas of the country and Colorado and the Rocky Mountains rank high on the list. With his latest article done and the six-month lease almost up on the small cabin in the valley, taking some personal time until moving on to his next assignment. In a downtown Denver bar, Graham meets Edward and after a short conversation agrees to a blind date with Edward?s business partner, Jane.

It couldn?t hurt anything, right?

Jane is completely oblivious to Edward?s machinations and shows up at Graham?s cabin to deliver a box of their handmade spicy chocolate truffles. She falls head over heels in lust the minute he opens the door. Jane isn?t sure what Cowboy Surfer, as she?s dubbed him, sees in her or why he?s so tenacious in his pursuit, but fails in her attempts to throw him off at every turn.

The inability to say continue saying ?No? leads to hot, scorching sex and follow-up phone calls full of suggestion, opening Jane?s eyes to the realization that maybe life doesn?t have to revolve around chocolate truffles, but rather around a delicious younger man.

Despite his Southern blood, Graham is quite taken with the beauty of the winter wonderland that is the Rocky Mountains. After he meets local candy maker Jane, he?s taken with lust and hunger for more than the chocolate truffles she?s perfected. But, is their heat hot enough to melt her cold defenses?

Publisher’s Note: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: Dubious consent, voyeurism of male/male sexual interaction.

Excerpt:

?What the??? Graham stood with his arms braced against the window frame and watched the wobbling woman outside on his front walk. Dressed from head to toe in pink and white fluff, she carried a pink box with a dark brown bow and was wearing the most absurd shoes.

Snow had fallen the previous night, and the drive up the mountains would have been a little tricky. She looked like a ski bunny, albeit a rather curvy one. He didn?t do ski bunnies. Much as he liked outdoorsy, adventurous women, something about the winter resort crowd had never appealed to him. He preferred privacy and solitary mountain escapes with roaring fires.

She stepped onto the porch and lowered the hood of her jacket. Her hair was a rich, dark brown wavy mass that stopped at her shoulders, and her cheeks were rosy from the cold. She was muttering something between barely moving lips, then pasted on a dazzling smile, shook her head, and knocked on the door.

Graham opened it, swung it wide, and grinned down at her. ?My oh my.? He let his gaze travel leisurely from the top of her tousled mane to her pointed toes. She was a delectable, pink confection, crazy-ass footwear and all. From her mumbling on the porch and her scrunched-up face to the moment she shook it off and gave his door the most beautiful smile, his cock had stirred in his jeans and he?d had a funny feeling in the pit of his stomach.

?Oh. Wow. I, ummm?I have a delivery for?? She fumbled in her coat pocket then pulled out a card, stealing small glances up at him as her cheeks reddened further. He would bet his next paycheck it wasn?t from the cold this time. ?For a Mr. Graham Hall. Are you him??

He gave it an exaggerated thought. ?If I wasn?t, I would certainly lie and say I was.? She frowned. He grinned. ?What are you delivering??

?Huh? Oh. Ummm, candy. Truffles, to be exact.?

She couldn?t stop staring at him. Did she like what she saw? He sure as hell did. ?I didn?t order any truffles.?

?You didn?t??

?Nope. I don?t even remember the last time I ate candy.?

Her frown deepened, and her brows furrowed. It was all he could do to keep from pulling her against him so he could taste those pouty lips. She was adorable. ?I?m sorry for the mistake, Mr. Hall.?

?Quite all right. Would you like to come in and warm up for a bit? I can make some coffee or hot chocolate. I might even have some marshmallows around here.?

?I?uh, no, thank you. I should get back to town and see about clearing this up. I am so, so sorry for bothering you.?

She wasn?t looking at him any longer. ?You didn?t. Bother me, that is, and I really must insist that you come in and get warm. Your feet have got to be cold in those?those shoes.? He grimaced as he said the word and took her by the arm, ushering her inside before she could say no again. Besides, it was damn cold out there, and he was glad to have the door closed.

She eased her arm out of his grip then backed up against the door. ?Really, this isn?t necessary. My car has a very good heater and?wait, what?s wrong with my shoes?? she asked, looking down and wiggling her toes, lifting her feet off the ground one by one as if trying to see what he found so distasteful.

?They?re nothing but two pieces of leather, a couple of strings, and a spike.??And would be much better suited to digging into my ass while you were on your back. He cleared his throat and tried his best to ignore the dirty thoughts running through his mind. He glared down at her feet rather than looking at her face, at her lush mouth, in her expressive eyes. ?They are the most ridiculous things to be wearing while trudging through the snow. How in the hell do you even walk in those on a good day, much less when there?s ice covering the streets and sidewalks??

?I?well, it wasn?t snowing in the city, and I didn?t?know I would have to trudge through the snow, and I park inside a garage, so I didn?t have to walk on any icy streets or sidewalks. At least I didn?t until I got here. You should really shovel your walkway. It?s dangerous not knowing where one is walking.? Her mouth had tightened, and her eyes had narrowed in his direction. She was not happy with him or his comments, and he was falling all over it, seeing her spark. Her smile twisted him all up inside, and her irritation with him did too. He loved that she couldn?t hide her emotions, that she showed everything she was feeling.

?Common sense should have told you that you wouldn?t be taking a leisurely stroll once you got up here. We?re in the mountains in winter. You need snow shoes, not?those,? he offered with a dismissive wave of his hand in the direction of her feet.

He was rewarded with a huff. She crossed her arms over her chest, boosting what little of her cleavage he could see from the small opening at the top of the zipper in her jacket. Yum.

?You know what? You said I hadn?t bothered you, but you?re not being very nice and over a pair of… Look, just because you don?t like them –?

?I don?t like them because you?re an accident waiting to happen. You wouldn?t have slipped on the ice if you?d had?proper shoes on.?

Embarrassment flooded her neck with heightened color. For a second, he felt bad at revealing that he?d seen her come close to falling on her face in his front yard, but the feeling didn?t last long. She could have been seriously hurt had she fallen.

She set the box of chocolates on the table beside the door and depressed the latch behind her. ?Have a nice afternoon, Mr. Hall. Keep the truffles. Give them to your neighbor, your girlfriend, or throw them out.?

She opened the door. He put his hand on it over her head and closed it back again. ?Stop. Please. I?m sorry for insulting your choice of footwear.? She just looked at him over her shoulder, one brow lifted in a quizzical expression. ?Come over to the fire. Take your?whatever they are off and warm yourself up before you go back out there.?

When he made to put his arm around her waist, she shrugged him off and moved out of reach, walking over to the couch. She wasn?t lithe and skinny, his candy delivery girl. The ski bunny outfit couldn?t hide the natural curves of her hips and ass.

She was all woman under that bundle of fabric.

She unlaced her shoes, and he heard her sigh with pleasure when she got them off. She stuck her feet out in front of her toward the fire and wiggled her pink-socked toes. There was nothing flirty or coquettish in her movements. He found that interesting. She wasn?t trying to come on to him; she wasn?t trying to entice him.

What a fun challenge she would be.

?I offered coffee or hot chocolate to you before. Would you like me to make some??

?No, thanks. I?m fine.?

He joined her on the couch after picking up the box of chocolates and settled into the corner behind her. ?Want one?? he asked, holding out the unopened box to her.

She shifted on the couch. ?No, thanks.?

Graham shrugged to himself and untied the ribbon, lifting the lid. ?Uh, honey? The –?

?My name is Jane.?

He grinned behind her. ?All right. Well,?Jane, there are no truffles in the box, there?s only r–?

?What!? She turned around and took the box from him, looking inside it herself, finding only small pebbles glued to the bottom of the decorative paper cups. ?I?m gonna?kill him. I am going to wrap his tie around his gay little neck and strangle his gay ass,? she muttered.

Rough Cut is available now at Samhain Publishing. It is the third book in my Black & White Collection. A series of books that explore wicked fantasies. In Rough Cut, Ty Ransome is the reigning king of Hollywood. A producer, actor, and Look Magazine?s Hottest Man Alive who believes he has it all?until he reads a book of short stories that touches him in places kept carefully hidden from the tabloid gossip mill. There?s only one way to meet the introverted writer?invite her to Tinseltown to work on a script. The moment he sees her, he realizes why her work haunts him. There?s something missing in his life, and it?s her.

Gwen steps off the plane with reservations. For one thing, her darkly sexual stories are hardly movie material. Then there?s Ty?s reputation as a ladies? man. Yet she?s won over by his charm and agrees to stay on for a week to get to know him before making her decision. And as the days go by, she discovers there?s far more to Ty than a handsome face.

They eat, drink and breathe the characters in their screenplay, re-enacting scenes that delve into the BDSM realm, setting Ty free to unleash his powerful cravings and exposing Gwen?s deepest needs. Needs she set free on paper?but is not sure she?s ready to make a reality.

The first two books in the Black & White Collection also deal with wicked fantasies. In Erotic Research, role playing in the bedroom is explored while in Tequila Truth, the main characters engage in a menage a trois! I hope to write future stories for this collection. So–are there any wicked fantasies you’d like to see in an erotic romance book?

On January 19th, Entwined by Fate the first in a innovative and sexy new series from S.A.Price releases. This series breaks the accepted boundaries on what is familiar in the shifter genre, by having Ophidians, or weresnakes as a focus.

Thirty females of the Ophidian race have gone missing, most from the transient nest of Las Vegas, a rogue and unofficial nest run by the Saint, John Merrick. Believed to be dead by every Archon in the states, Merrick leads a quiet and unassuming life, saving those of his race that are lost and need it most. It’s a solitary existence, one that he hates every day. He yearns for his mate, the woman he left over a decade before, and the woman who thinks him dead to this day.

When Elise Rizdon gets the official invitation to the Archon meeting in Ohio by the leader of a new Midwestern nest, she never expected to see the love of her life at the woman’s side, a man she was told was dead and buried. She lost him once upon a time, and she never fully recovered. Focusing on the issues, and not the man that has always made her body burn is not going to be easy. A disturbing event is on the horizon, one that threatens all Ophidian’s and their way of life. In order to survive they will have to work together, give up old grudges and take chances on the things that matter most. Love, life and the continuation of their race.

And the reviews have been amazing!

S.A. Price has written a winner! The taut plot line and the constant danger lurking at every corner increase the tension as the reader anxiously turns the pages. S.A. Price does a marvelous job at integrating subplots and smoothly fitting all of the pieces together. The secondary romances developing within the plot line make the happily-ever-after all the more satisfying. Brilliant!

Brilliant!

TV Spotlight: Supernatural by Chris Marie Green/Crystal Green

(I tried my best to be spoiler free for those of you who haven?t yet experienced the awesomeness!)

There are some shows you watch just to be entertained.? These are superficial, pass-the-time programs that leave no mark on you.? In fact, by the end of the season, you have trouble recalling some of the episodes.? You do not relate to the characters at all.

Supernatural isn?t that show.

Take two brothers who have daddy issues, mix-in their opposites-are-fun-to-watch chemistry, put them on a road trip filled with ghost stories, pathos, demons, and the apocalypse, add a dash of gorgeous hunk of men and you?ve got a Thursday night full of awesome.? And lest this all should sound very glossy, it?s not.? This show has made me laugh because I love the characters so much.? This show has thrown me into the pit of despair because of the decisions those characters make.? This show has scared me because, unlike some mainstream TV programs,?Supernatural refuses to pull its punches?there are always consequences for actions, and that?s the genius of the drama here.? We go through the hole to a dark, frightening, sometimes hilarious Wonderland with our avatars, the Winchester brothers, and we suffer right along with them.

I?m only a recent convert.? For some reason, I didn?t know how fantastic this show was at first.? But then I heard all the whisperings on the ?net about this storyline or that character on?Supernatural, and I was intrigued.? People would tell me that I?need to tune in, so I obeyed.? And happy I am.

Why?? Here are a few reasons:
1.The storytelling doesn?t get any better than this.

The seasons all have their own arcs and climaxes, but the creator, Eric Kripke, had a full vision for the entire series.? That means we have a lot of satisfying continuity, such as the payoff of several mysterious elements that showed up in earlier seasons (for example, Croatoan and the Meg demon).? Also, along with the longer arcs, we get great twists on ghost stories and urban legends we?ve heard before, but they?re all solved Winchester style, with smart-ass cracks from brother Dean and puppy-dog sympathy from brother Sam.? The series treats its audience with respect; I mentioned that it pulls no punches, but it also strives to be clever.
2. The series never lingers too long on a mystery.

Supernatural knows just how and when to solve something.? Just when you think a plot is played out, another twist will come along and keep you very, very interested.
3. The writers have juevos.

They have the guts to explore things that might scare a lot of other staffs.? For those who?ve seen the series, I point in particular to Sam in season 4.? And Ruby.? And Bela.

4. And just in case you?re not yet convinced?

Dean and Sam are hot.

I recommend first renting the DVDs.? You?ll want to know everything about the Winchester brothers and what they?re facing.? Believe me, it?ll be worth the investment.? : )
