Finding a comfortable niche
Finding the right fit for you as an author or as a reader can be tricky. As a reader I like all sorts of different genres. I read cozy mysteries and crime. I enjoy paranormal. I love romance, everything from sweet to very kinky. There is no one right genre to suit my reading tastes. Today I may feel like a historical romance. Tomorrow, I may want to read a cozy mystery. By next week, who knows what I might be looking for.
So it won?t come as a surprise to you, then, to learn I write across genres. Although most of my stories are contemporary-set, I have also written two Regency historicals. I have MMF m?nages, MM and FF books. I even have one straight MF story, ?Dinner Delights.? I also have vampires, a werewolf, and several ghosts.
Is m?nage better than MF? Is paranormal better than historical or contemporary?
I like to think there is a big wide world of readers out there, some of whom will be just like me, and enjoy a bit of everything.
Let me introduce you to my erotic FF novella, ?Loving Lydia?.
Tammy’s sights are set and goals targeted. With one thing on her mind – Lydia – she will stop at nothing to satisfy every craving her body has for the seductive female, including showing up at the same gym for a chance encounter.
Lydia’s career is in her pocket. Successful, motivated, and driven, Lydia realizes she wants more out of life than just her job. Aware of Tammy’s intentions, Lydia decides to play along, at least until a cup of steaming hot coffee turns into a passionate night. Can she split her life between her career and Tammy?
Will Tammy be able to quench her thirst for Lydia with one night of hot sex, or will she be left wanting more?
Tammy?s heart clenched at the succulent picture Lydia made, her soft golden-blonde hair looking very pretty against the bright yellow shirt. She gulped.
“Sounds good.” She dragged in another deep breath. “Meet you at the coffee shop across the street in, say, half an hour then?”
“Yeah, that?ll be good.” Lydia slid her cell phone back into her pocket and increased the speed of her bike.
Tammy tried to concentrate on her own work-out, but her eyes slid over to the delicious picture her neighbor made, with just the slightest sheen of sweat on her face, her legs pumping the bike pedals.
Her face will look just like that as we make love?that glow of perspiration, the smile in her eyes. But her attention will be focused on me as I bring her to one orgasm after another. I wonder if her pussy is bare or if she has blonde curls for me to run my fingers through as I search out her clit to stroke it. Her skin is fair and soft. I bet her nipples will be pink rather than brown. But in my mouth, they?ll soon turn hard and red as I suck her closer and closer to exploding. And then I?ll?
Tammy brought her mind back to the present as cream dripped from her cunt, dampening her panties. Lucky I was planning to have a shower and change my underwear!
Tammy watched as Lydia slid off her bike, smiled at her, and wandered over to the weights to do the next part of her program. She?d first noticed Lydia a couple of months ago, and the attraction had been instant and all-consuming. Lydia was very organized and followed a routine. Unlike Lydia, Tammy didn?t have a set program. She just did whatever she felt like and right now what she wanted to do was watch Lydia, so she stayed on the bike.
Because Tammy didn?t have a set program, it was easy for her to come to the gym a couple of times a week when she knew Lydia would be there, hoping she could get to know her better.
And the more she learned about the woman, the more she ached to hold her in her arms and make love to her. And now, finally, they were going to have a coffee together. Awesome!

Book Blurb: Not one for public limelight, Sheila, the new VP of Operations must face her greatest fear: the presentation to her future. Overridden with anxiety and nerves, she could only turn to one person for help?Matt, her husband of eleven years. But his innovative ways pose possible threats to her job. Can she risk endangering her career for the sake of fulfilling her forbidden fantasies?
I don?t see any movement. Are they still breathing? I know this stuff is dry, but come on?something!
A little, neon-green Christmas tree blinked at her from the last row. After the third blink, the words ?Merry Xmas? turned red. Oh my God, he came. Her breath caught and she stammered.
She paused to regroup, hiding her distraction behind a pull from her water bottle. The tie was a gag gift she gave Matt last Christmas, but he hadn?t worn it yet. Until now. Seeing him brought the night before in the tub into sharp focus. “Just remember this feeling,” he had said as she squirmed in the water under his torturous, yet wonderful ministrations.
She shook her head to clear the images. Once under control again, she continued, “We?ve been watching our corporate expenses very carefully over this time.”
Sheila flushed, unable to ignore the blinking lights off the tie, but it wasn?t embarrassment that tinged her cheeks and prickled her skin. This heat emanated from deep inside?from somewhere only he could reach.

Ever the quiet one growing up, I often slid away from reality and curled up with a book in my lap to slip into the worlds of my favorite authors, too numerous to name here, but never forgotten. They saved me from dark times, low moments, and probably from making choices that would have led down darker paths.
Since then, I had a fascination with fantasy, paranormal and the neverending appeal and beauty of romance. Always the happiness and perfection of romance. It seems only natural all of these loves would come together in my writing. I began to craft little stories for my dolls when I was around eight, but all that changed the summer I was fourteen and introduced to my aunt’s Silhouette Presents novels. Oh my, what a world that opened.
It’s been non-stop since that hot New Jersey summer. It’s only gotten worse (in a good way) now?I moved out and created a personal library full of novels filled with dragons, fairies, vampires, shapeshifters of all kinds, and romance, always I came back to romance. Still, there were these characters in my head, worlds wanting to be built on paper, and stories wanting to be told and I began writing them down whether during or after class. I continue to this day, only recently has it begun to become fruitful for me, spreading out to let others read and enter my worlds, meet my characters, and see what I see.
No matter what I write, my stories of romance with their twists of paranormal, fantasy, and erotica will always have their Happily Ever Afters.
I currently work in a quiet office in Central Florida, where I also make my home, and enjoy the down time to slip into my characters and worlds to escape reality from time to time. At home, I also become human slave to two crazy cats – an angelic red tabby and a semi-demonic black-orange calico.
I love to hear from readers and fans, don’t be shy. Find me on the ‘net or send me an email.

A Necklace with a Surprise
*curled up in a Papasan with a purring red tabby on lap* Hello everyone! Thank you, Serena, for having all of us from Breathless Press on your blog. This is such a wonderful pleasure to join you. This is my beloved kitty, Mia, who often lends a paw or flicks a tail across my keyboard, when I?m writing and insisted on joining me. She often keeps a snarky muse from butting into my blogs so it?s a good thing she?s here.
Demon Heart started out as a promise to my youngest cousin to create a story with her as the main character. Constance, the heroine, took on a lot of my cousin?s appearance and quirks while I was writing. Of course, I had to create a fabulous hero for my cuz and Aramir the fire demon appeared. Still there had to be the reason why these two were brought together.
Something beyond a typical reason for Aramir to first be bound to the jewel. Then a reason for Constance to want to help or love Aramir beyond him being a simple?simple?? ::grin::? sex demon.
I don?t want to give away too much.. But I do hope you enjoy the reasons I came up with for Connie and Aramir along with the preternatural town of Maple, Maine, which I will be visiting soon with future stories with Breathless Press.
Don?t forget to comment for a chance to win a free pdf copy of Demon Heart!
Can a fire demon bound to a ruby necklace find a way to love?
Running errands before Halloween, a dazzling ruby necklace in a window display draws Constance Morelli into a store where she hears the tale of a demon bound as a sex slave by an evil sorceress. If she stands naked under the moonlight and repeats a spell, the demon will appear to grant every sexual desire she ever dreamt about. Not quite believing the story, but seeing a flame in the fire, she takes the jewel home and finds herself in possession of a naked demon hunk named Aramir.
After 4,000 years of dealing with various mistresses in one sexual way or another, Aramir knows what to expect when he appears in the moonlight. Only this mistress is different and he finds himself fed, clothed, and treated like a real man not a slave. What is a bound demon to do with such a lady?
“Holy cannoli, I can?t believe I?m doing this.” Connie ran a hand over hair that ran in wild waves to her shoulders. Her dark forest gaze looked around the quiet, empty backyard somewhat secluded by the fence and huge old oak trees, climbing roses, and lilac bushes. Still, in a neighborhood as small as hers, she never knew when some old coot or horny teen stared out a window, binoculars pressed to their eyes to catch the latest gossip.
A cold nose pressed against her bare skin giving her a bit of a shock. Then a soft whine.
She looked down at the small chocolate lab and terrier mix she recently rescued from the local shelter and brought into her small home. Dropping a hand from where it had a chokehold on the white satin robe, she gave one silky brown ear a scratch.
“Do you think I?m nuts, Cocoa?”
As a baker, what else could she name the little brown and white dog except her favorite baking ingredient? Chocolate. Luckily, it fit the little mutt to perfection.
The dog tilted her head and barked once.
Constance sighed. “Thanks. I?ll take that under consideration.”
The skinny tail swished and thumped against her leg.
Warmth flooded her chest from the ruby flame. It gave her strength to open the robe, lay it over the wooden railing, and walk down to the grass. She looked up as the moon came out from behind the clouds to flood her lawn with the pure natural light.
“This will either work or put me in the mental ward, Cocoa,” Constance said.
After a soft whine, the dog laid down, head on paws.
“Thanks for the support, girl.”
A little woof left the dog as an ear flicked in her direction.
Connie grinned. She cupped her hands around the necklace and lifted it from her skin. After another long inspection of the jewel, she watched the inner flame flicker under the natural light.
Would this actually work?
Standing nude in the moonlight, the necklace her only adornment, she clasped a hand around the flame, closed her eyes, and recited the words.
There was no flash of light. No rumble of sound. The ground didn?t shake. No warm hands on her body.
Her eyes opened. She looked around.
Cocoa whined in question.
“Well, Cocoa, that was a whole lotta nothing. I feel like a complete idiot.” Constance moved toward the patio and snagged the robe. “At least I got a beautiful necklace out of the deal. It?ll go great with my outfit for the dance.”
She lifted it again, only this time, something was different.
The jewel was darker. It felt empty.
Cocoa growled, low and nasty.
“You called me to your bed, milady?”
Spinning, pressing the robe to her front, Constance?s jaw dropped at the sight of the six-foot-three-inch naked male standing at the base of the porch. Not just any male, but a true blue hunk of walking sex.
“Oh my?” she squeaked.
Hi folks! ::waves:: I’m DC Juris, and today I’ll be blogging about my newest release from Breathless Press, ?Perfect Christmas.?
First, a hearty thanks to the wonderful Selena for having me! Second, for those who don’t know me, I’m an out and proud bisexual transgender male, and I live in Upstate NY with my husband, three cats, and four dogs. I write contemporary and fantasy romance across the whole spectrum of pairings, but I have a soft spot for m/m and transgender m/m.
Depressed and lonely, Evan has nothing to look forward to on Christmas but his TV dinner and store-bought cookies, while his lover, Drake, spends the holiday traveling for business. But a special delivery changes everything, and Evan finds himself in the middle of a perfect Christmas. Worn out from his stocking stuffer, Evan’s not sure how he’s going to handle his present, but when Drake reveals that Evan’s gift is a threesome with none other than their hunky friend Mike, Evan summons the energy!
Sounds like a perfect Christmas for just about anyone, right? LOL
Evan and Drake presented themselves to me on a last minute whim, and boy, was I surprised when they mentioned Mike! I’ve only written one other m/m/m, and that one was planned from the start. But I always let my characters dictate the story, so I had to go with it. (Oh, poor me, slaving away over a steamy sex scene with three hunks. The sacrifices I make for my craft!)
I have to say, my holidays aren’t nearly as racy!! I grew up in an abusive household, which didn’t leave much to look forward to in the way of holiday cheer. Once I was grown and on my own, however, I was able to embrace my inner elf. Nowadays, I spend Christmas with my husband, my cats, and my dogs, and I’m thrilled with it!
We exhange gifts in the morning, then have a light lunch. For dinner, there’s usually a restaurant open in our area on Christmas Day, so that’s where you’ll find us (because I hate to cook), and we end the day watching old zombie movies or playing on the computer. In essence, we try to keep the holiday as laid back and relaxed as we possibly can.
Evan, Drake, and Mike would be bored to tears at my house!
You can find more of my work at www.dcjuris.com

But wait!! Don’t click that link just yet!! Leave a comment below, and I’ll pick one lucky winner to receive a free pdf copy of ?Perfect Christmas!?
Here’s an excerpt for your reading pleasure (and it will be a pleasure, trust me!)
Evan waited in line at Pierce’s, the only store open on Christmas Day in the sleepy, coastal town of Ormond Bay, absorbing the chaos as people hurried up and down aisles in search of forgotten holiday necessities. Across the store, a lady frantically called for help from a clerk, begging him to tell her they hadn’t sold the last of the cranberries, and wailing about how she couldn’t make the perfect meal without them. In front of Evan, a man dressed in a suit and tie tossed down a fifty, told the cashier to keep the change, and ran out the door with two frozen pies.
Evan emptied the contents of his basket?a motley assortment of store-brand frozen dinners, cookies, soups, and canned fruit?and frowned, feeling rather frumpy in the mix of brightly dressed people and festive, almost garish, decorations of the store. He ran a hand absent-mindedly through his hair, remembering only just then he’d neglected to gel and spike it this morning. Not to mention that he also hadn’t bothered to get the red tips recolored. Above his dark roots, the tips looked more gray than anything else. Fabulous. It didn?t help that he was probably the only person walking around without a tan.
“That’ll be seventeen fifty.”
He dug into the pocket of his sweatpants and pulled forth his wallet, handed over a crisp twenty-dollar bill with a sigh. Even his money was snazzier than him.
“Merry Christmas, Mister Connor!” The bubbly cashier beamed up at him from under her picture perfect, curly blonde bangs, but Evan just scowled as he grabbed up bag of groceries and walked away to trudge out the door and back down the street for home. Outside, even the bright Florida sun couldn’t dispel his dreary mood.
Christmas, huh? Bah! Humbug! What did he have to be cheerful about, anyhow? Watching reruns of stupid movies over his microwaved TV dinner of Salisbury steak again? Dodging phone calls from his mother and other assorted supposedly well-meaning relatives whose main questions seemed to be where was his lover, Drake, and when was Evan going to stop putting up with that man’s schedule and find someone who appreciated him? Spending yet another Christmas alone, while Drake jetted around the state with the annoying millionaire boss?
Evan sighed. Trouble was, Drake did appreciate him; Drake only worked so hard so that he didn’t have to, so he could pursue his artwork. And he knew Drake felt just as bad as he did about missing out on holidays, but Drake’s boss had made it quite clear in the initial interview that she expected her men, as she called them, to be at her beck and call, regardless of the time of day or night. Or year. But the money? The money was very, very good. And they were young now, only in their twenties. They had the rest of their lives to spend holidays together, didn’t they?
First, I’d like to thank Selena for allowing Breathless Press and a few of our authors the opportunity over the next few days to guest on her blog. So let me introduce myself and tell you a little bit about Breathless Press.
I’m Justyn Perry, owner and publisher of Breathless Press; and for me, publishing was a natural fit.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and possess countless years of experience in the publishing industry. I love books to no end and am thrilled that I can be part of something as great as producing them. I?m self taught in graphic design and enjoy my role not only as publisher at Breathless Press but as one of the cover artists. I can learn just about any program in a week, so trying new things is a pleasure along with utilizing old techniques.
Breathless Press was started for a few reasons. I saw a decline in the number of quality eBooks being produced and wanted to make a difference. With the onset of Self-Publishing, it felt like no one cared very much about quality. Granted, there are those publishers out there who are concerned with quality, but they are far and few between. I wanted to provide authors with a place where they felt welcome and like it was their second home. Not a place they dreaded and would end up regretting that they?d signed with us as a publisher. So, Breathless Press was formed.
With countless genres to choose from, Romance was my top pick when deciding what Breathless Press (then a nameless publisher) would release. The Romance genre is a giant market. It sells billions of dollars worth of books a year. Romance not only serves a monetary purpose, but it also provides satisfaction, happiness, and pleasure to those who read it. In our current economic period, I felt it was the right time to offer more books that made people forget about their problems and allow them to take a quick vacation. The Romance genre provides so much to readers, and I wanted to be part of that.
Breathless Press is not about quantity. We spend a lot of time on each book, crafting it, editing it, and building it up. I view eBooks as a house. You have to establish a sturdy foundation (the publisher). From there, you build up slowly, so that once it?s finished, it won?t collapse. The time you put into the book will pay off, which is why Breathless Press strives for quality.
Covers are like windows allowing readers to peer inside the house. I love art. Art is an amazing medium and allows so much expression. I will admit now, I do not have the time to read every story that we publish (shocker, I know). I will read close to every title, though, but I just don?t have enough time to read them all. The cover is such an important part in the production of the eBook, because it allows readers to sample what is to come.
These last few weeks were filled with growth. We launched our very first f/f book, Strapless by Honoria Ravena in August, which kicked off our Aphrodite line. Another big milestone for us was the launch of another line. I approached Kaye Spencer, western writer, to write an erotic western for our Branded line, which kicked off November. She agreed with a sly grin and began work. Some lines to come include one in January called Cyber: Satisfying all your future desires; an erotic/erotica SF line.
In June, we will be releasing our much anticipated Mocha line: A hot and rich blending of Desires.
We launched our Audio Book collection this past summer as well, so readers can now listen to their favorite Breathless Press titles while they work out at the gym, jog, drive, eat, sleep, and breathe. We aren?t picky where they listen. Last but not least, we will be printing a few titles this fall, so watch for that coming soon.
Breathless Press will also be introducing a brand new website in 2011, so I hope you?ll stop by and check it out.
Authors are everything; without them, publishers wouldn?t have anything to publish. Breathless Press wants to make every author feel special. We are like a fine bed and breakfast, catering to most needs of authors and trying to give them the best care we can. If our authors are happy, we are happy, and our readers will want to read their books. Each author becomes part of our family and is a friend and treated like one. I believe this allows us to create a better relationship, and happy authors produce great books.
We are currently open for submission in all genres with a preference for works 5K and greater. Please stop by and check our submission guidelines here: http://www.breathlesspress.com/erotic/submissions
