Menage Week: Why Write a Ménage? by Talya Bosco

I was talking to my mom a while ago about my writing. She loves the fact I am writing, but does not love what I write. She has asked me why I write what I do, and I actually have given some thought to that. I write erotic romance, both with m/f pairings, and some with multiple partners. I have to say so far my favorite is the m/f/m or the m/m/f grouping. I have written one m/m/m/f, as well. That was challenging, to say the least. But the point of this is why people write ménages. We all have different reasons, some of us more than one reason. I have listed only four, there are other reasons, I am sure, though.

1. I’m sick in the head.

I am. That’s all you need to know. :-D

2. I like them.

I do. Okay, I am greedy, I like the thought of two men paying attention to me my characters. Two men being so in love with me my heroine that they are willing to share. Yes, my mother and sisters think the idea is crazy and disgusting, but I don’t. If three people love each other, then they should be able to embrace that love. And you know, even if it isn’t love, if it is just a little bit of fun, they aren’t hurting anyone. If everyone is consenting and wants it, then let them have that fun. A committed triad or a one night threesome, as long as the participants all want it, and it won’t hurt anyone else, who is to say it is wrong?

My first story with Loose-Id, Redesigning Adele has a woman that wants her two best friends, Max and Leo. Although the two men are an established couple they are bisexual. They are also interested in having Adele join their family on a permanent, more intimate basis, a fact she is unaware of. Now this may not be an example of two men putting all their attention on one woman, but it is an example of two men in love with a woman, and being willing to do almost anything to make her happy.

3. They sell well.

They do sell well. Especially when we are talking about Ebooks. Erotic romance continues to be on the rise and ménages do well in the ebook format. But so does BDSM and you won’t see me writing many, if any, of those. I am fond of saying that I write to entertain, but many people write solely for the income. And ménages can produce income.

4. It’s sexy and appeals to untapped fantasies.

This reason kind of goes with some of the ones above. Once we’ve grown up, we all learn that often a man’s biggest fantasy is two women in bed at the same time. With him. Sometimes the guy likes the thought of the women getting intimate with each other, sometimes not. But we, as women, aren’t allowed that same fantasy. At least not in polite society. It’s “expected” for men to be “horndogs” but not us women. My sister said that it was okay for a man to be with two women, but any woman that wants to be with two men is “sick” and a “slut.” Now, being the kind of girl I am, that kind of reasoning alone is enough to make me want to write all kinds of ménages with one female and two males. I take pride in telling “society” and its expectations where to go.

Stowaway, my novella from Ellora’s Cave is definitely about fantasies. Not only is it set in a futuristic world, but Aurelia has not only one or two men that want to be with her, but three. Again, these men are involved with each other, and are in search of something more, someone to finish off their family. This was the challenging one I mentioned above, but it was still a whole lot of fun. Think about it-three men who are hardwired to find the one woman that completes each one of them. Plus, lol, for those nights that she is tired, they still have each other to have fun with.

I could list so many other reasons, ménages are fun, they are different, etc, but many of those would go with the above mentioned reasons.  Let’s just say that I write ménages because I like them. I believe in love, I believe in sex, and I believe in fun. Why not mix all three of them in a different way.
Talya is an avid fan of all forms of the printed word. She has been reading for as long as she can remember, and has dreamed of being an author for almost as long. On any given day, when she’s not working, you can find her at the computer or curled up somewhere in her house reading whatever has caught her fancy that week. She has been known to push the limits of her deadlines, or go to work on little to no sleep, only so she can finish a book she is reading.

Talya feels all the reading has helped her to become a better author. She has devoted her professional life to writing fun, erotic stories that make you believe in second chances and happily-ever-afters.

Talya has been published by Ellora’s Cave and Loose-Id with additional stories coming out in the next few months. You can find out more about her at her website, www.talyabosco.com.
