Menage Week: Two?s Company, Three?s a M?nage by Cat Johnson

I have to say that when it comes to opinions regarding m?nages, at least in literature, men and women really do part ways. It is clearly a Venus/Mars divide in that when I tell people my new book is a threesome theme, all men want it to be two women on one man, and all female readers want it to be two men pleasing one lucky woman. Ladies, don’t worry, you win. To the great chagrin of my male beta readers, my threesomes to date have all been M/F/M. Sorry, guys!

Why this great divide? Perhaps it is a bit of homophobia on the guys’ part. They are always afraid their “parts” may accidentally touch (and turn them spontaneously gay, I guess. LOL.) Of course there is always that male fantasy of watching two women together so that could be part of it. Though men are such simple creatures perhaps I am reading too much into it.

As for that deep dark fantasy women harbor, being pleased by two men, this may come from a number of places also. First of all, after being the caretaker for everyone else all day long, who wouldn’t long for a little ‘me’ time where two men were totally dedicated to pleasing you? I can’t discount the vanity/competitive factor that comes into play between two women, either. I know I couldn’t enjoy the three-way romp if I was thinking “Are her boobs firmer than mine?” “How come she has no cellulite?” You get the picture.

Anyway, as I mentioned, I have recently entered the dark world of m?nage romance and it’s been a hell of a journey so far. My rodeo cowboy threesome Rough Stock was released December 1st in both eBook and Print simultaneously and since then it spent weeks on the All Romance eBooks Top 10 best seller list, hit number one at Linden Bay Romance.com and is still an Amazon.com Romance/Western category best seller, thereby proving people love a threesome. Here’s the blurb for Rough Stock, available now.

ROUGH STOCK by CAT JOHNSON

Bronc riders Mason and Clay have shared both good times and bad, but they never expected to share their boss’ daughter, April. Can two friends love one woman, body and soul, without it destroying them?

The heart wants what it wants. For April that means not choosing between the two cowboys she loves, no matter how wrong it may seem inviting them both into her bed. But can the relationship survive when life sends the three lovers in opposite directions?

Filled with hot sex, passion, and realistic characters, and set amid the world of rodeo where life is lived eight seconds at a time, Rough Stock sends author Cat Johnson galloping full speed into the tantalizing realm of m?nage romance.

My first threesome was so fun to write, I did it again and here is breaking news that I just got myself. The new book, Unridden, has been bumped up in the release schedule and instead of a Fall ’09 release, look for it this May! (Keep your eye on www.catjohnson.net for my long awaited bookcover for that new release, as well as its sequel). Picture it… Two hot bull riding cowboys and one lucky, inquisitive romance writer. That was a blast to write. Though my cowboy consultant, the real life bull rider who helps me with facts and details, now has a major ego issue going since he figured out I modeled one of the cowboy characters after him.

So that is my take on this new m?nage phenomenon taking the romance industry by storm and I thank Selena for providing the forum to air my views. And now I leave you with a question to ponder– if art imitates life and life imitates art, how many threesomes are going on around us right now and we just don’t know about them? Or perhaps, maybe we do. Hmmmm….
